A belated but from the heart 'Thank you'

Even though I am playing ED for some weeks now, up until now I never posted on the forums.
But it is time I show my appreciation to David and his team for making Elite Dangerous possible. I cannot remember when I had so much fun on my pc after having played Elite on a BBC computer long ago.

So here it is, Thank you guys! You have no idea how much fun I have lately with this awesome version of the most epic computer game ever! :)

Quick, frame this honest post before it is swamped and lost among all the doom-laden oh-no-too-few-days-left-to-fix-it posts. The OP is having fun despite the game being regarded en masse by the forum (that is, the small majority that post) as broken or not in a fit state to release.

I salute you OP. I'm having fun too.

How dare you have fun and proclaim it here! Go back to your cave, Troll! This is the place for "OMG the economy is broken!" and "if this feature doesn't get in then the game will NEVER be accepted by the unwashed masses!", not for "damnit ... I just had smoke in my cockpit while trying to sun-scoop and I had to drink in RL because It felt so real" shenanigans ...

While those posts are doing my nut, I try to remember that they do come (mostly) from a genuine hope for this game to succeed. I've had a few doubts myself, but then i realize that I've spent over 200 hours in this game, so they're doing something right :p

Yeah, for years I have been googling Elite 4, and praying it would return, and even looking for alternatives but none were good enough or elite enough.

Then about this time last year I stumbled upon it, the return of the cobra. I couldnt believe it.

Theres also my worries that after so much time and so many changes in gaming it wouldnt work now, or wouldnt capture the essence of elite, or frontier wouldnt have the ability to translate this into 2014, but I think overall they have done a fantastic job. Just the right amount of nostalgia, a nice blend of old and new. I love how they kept the original feel. And even the scanner. It shows how much they got so right even way back then that it is still the best way to do it today.

I cant believe its took this long but now its finally here.

Thankyou to everyone involved, including all the testers and kickstarter backers. :)

Can't agree more! I got in for beta 2 and it has been a wonderful ride so far. Looking forward to many years in the 'pit :D

How dare you darken this positive forum post chain with your wheezing negativity. Go start another," FD don't know what they are doing" post as we are down to our last hundred of them. :D

< that's full of positive thoughts and lovely spacey bunny rabbits. And reserved for people actually having fun in the game, even if they come across the odd bug or incomplete feature.

Yes! FD team are doing such a good job. Am stopping replying to all the whiny posts now as I realise I'm just bumping the whiner threads.

As a software engineer and considering the size and complexity of the game, I think the guys have done an amazing job so far.

Yes there are issues and we will get irritated with regular updates spoiling our late afternoon play.

But think of everything the team have got right. There's so much to do in the game already it's enough to keep us playing for years.

Well done team and keep up the good work.

Yep. I'm loving it too. I really struggle to play anything else at the moment!

I'm sure I've said this elsewhere, but I've played the hell out of Elite:Dangerous and in the BETA alone I racked up 208 hours.

I've been a long-time Battlefield player and typically log 300 hours on each release (BF1942, BF:V, BF2, BF:BC2, BF3, BF4) over a two year period. But if I compare BF4 which cost £50 + £30 for Premium for 300 hours over two years, to ED which cost £45 (£30KS + £15 Beta) and has given the same level of play in less than six months that BF gave in two years. That's value for money!

I've met some great people at EGX this year and at the Première Party and as a KickStarter backer & software developer myself it's been great to see such an amazing game in development.

Wednesday night I did two rare commodity trade runs (Lave to Eranin & back) and made enough CR to re-buy my maxed out Viper a second time. Oh, Anaconda! You will be mine once more!

heh, this!
I'm a BF player too! Almost exactly the same play history. Got distracted by PayDay2 for a while.
But since this came out I've been exhaustively playing Elite Dangerous in my own way.
Yes, some stretches between stars in system make me nod off but that's more due to the time I play (late at night when wife and kids are asleep) and the fact I'm an Explorer/Hunter.

I heartily second the OP on FDs work. I'm not saying there isn't any more to be done, as many posters on these forums state.

But don't forget, FD aren't saying they're done either!

This is not SpaceBase DF:9

Yes a big thank you from me as well FD. :)

Of all my years of gaming I've not seen this level of dedication support from a software developer than with FD.

This game is certainly living up to my expectations at the moment and of course it isn't perfect and still needs some polish but so far so good.

I think FD have done a brilliant job bringing this game back and I'm looking forward to see what goodies they bring us after release.

And yes I agree about all the whining I've seen recently. When I first joined the beta a few months ago, this forum was a more friendlier place to discuss matters. Constructive criticism is good but recently I've noticed an increase in trolling, complaining for the most absurd reasons. It's a bit sad really because at the end of the day it's still just a game and there are far more important things to think about in real life. The best way to deal with it of course is to ignore and try not to reply to let those threads disappear instead of being bumped to the top. ;)

I think the Battlefield series was the last one which had me hooked for so long. I think I played it for over five years and it was the most fun I'd had with gaming in a while. Now the same thing might be happening all over again with Elite: Dangerous. Oh no! ;)

+1 OP. I've just had my early Chrimbo pressie in the form of a HOTAS setup, so it's been like learning to walk again but I've now transferred controls completely. I can't agree more with all of this thread, this game is the most promising evolution in gaming in a long time. I share your nostalgia too, starting on Elite back in '84.

Hope to see you folks out in the big black soon, fly safe!
