My (and our thanks) to the community, to HCS Voicepacks, to JGM of EDDI fame and many others. For the last 4 months, Hutton Orbital have been working on a voice pack for the game based on one of our regular characters and broadcasters on the radio station.
The brief was that he shouldn't be a "control" pack, but a "passenger" and instead of doing what you ask, he should react to what you're up to in game as some kind of inebriated hitcher.
We set a deadline of "the release day of 2.2" for getting it live to co-incide with the big update. Following the recording studio bits (nearly 1000 phrases and responses recorded) that were written even before beta 2.2 was released, and hedging bets on the content, we then ploughed into the programming.... 22,000+ recognised phrases later, he was ready.
I'm a big fan of the EDDI plugin for VA - as can be found in the tools subset of the forums here, and was REALLY eager to have the voice pack automatically work with that if anyone had it.... Version 2 beta dropped a week or two ago and we had to do a comprehensive re-write of the pack.
Anyway - this is a HUGE thank you to the 74 people who backed the project and joined us on the live stream last night for "Cecil's first flight". Anecdotes are coming in that at least one person laughed so hard that they crashed and died, and another spat coffee all over his keyboard. There's more to come - based on the number of people who have bought it since we had it backed, we'll be able to get into the studio and record a LOT MORE CONTENT in December, which is great. What's even more great is that the various celebrity voices have recorded extra sentences and phrases directly referencing Cecil, the Hutton Mug, Hutton Orbital and Centauri Mega Gin for us.... (Hearing Mr Shatner talk to one of our characters was a proper laugh).
AND - we're able to donate money from each one to SpecialEffect - we'll be getting a quarterly statement and writing Baz from SE a little cheque.
We're running a little competition for the best video featuring Cecil in the cockpit and giving away lots of special Hutton goodies as well.
