A bit of civic + moral advice, please.

I'm a complete newb, (well, I was Elite in the 80's), but surely the balancing mechanic is simple? Just allow a player to put a bounty on another commander if their ship is destroyed? That way, in forced PvP, overly aggressive players become more worthwhile for BH's to take out. Piracy wouldn't be affected, as you could still take out drives and suchlike to get people to drop cargo, yet willful violence would be punished. Whether it's one huge bounty of a couple of million from one rich trader, or cumulative from smaller ones, BH gets a boost and anti-social players get a comeback for their actions.

I'm puzzled by the problem? If you and a mate want to play together and PvE fight, why not create your' own group? Solo and open aren't the only options. You could group just the two of you and go blast the crap out of NPC's for the rest of your' life. I feel for him btw. I have been blasted by PvP but it's all a part of the game really. I try to stick to open play but because I find the edginess of looking out for hostile PvP adds to the immersion. I haven't resorted to solo mode yet, but on the whole, if I'm going somewhere dangerous, I'll kit out a cheaper ship or make sure I can pay the insurance.

That is an idea i think about a lot. You were right on the spot with that one. I put a bounty on them, with a time limit. Pay upfront. Target killed by CMDR inside the timeline? He gets my credits. Simple. Loved to see that implemented.

In answer to the OP.

Group play, or solo play is the answer. It's not a perfect answer, but it's an answer. I choose who I play with, I choose the rules. It's my game that I paid for. I want to play to relax. I don't want to be looking over my shoulder every time I see another player. I think that 1.2 won't do anything to resolve the idiot issue, in fact I think it will make it worse, because how we can have gangs of idiots. Basically, I'm not bothering with open play - that's for the hardcore pvp.

See, this is where Frontier could do something. An idea would be to introduce a proper co-op mode. It will have some challanges. How it would work, well start with not being able to target player ships - unless they are on the opposing side in a conflict zone.
Add a safety system to the ships, so that they automatically detect friendly fire and cease fire - I'm not saying 0 damage from friendly fire. Just saying that the ship should refuse to fire on a ship piloted by a human. I'm not saying it's a perfect answer, there isn't one. Just an idea.

Got no problems whatsoever with blue on blue situations. For the good or for the bad, Elite was designed to be a "cut-throat galaxy" as FD stated in their ED website. Not allowing player targeting even if they're noobies/outnumbered will surely hurt that essence. That i can understand. They can scale down wings. By making anything larger than ASP occupy 2 or 3 wing slots. That would make sense. "Oh you have a large ship and wanna play with friends? get a smaller ship!" Just for the sake of firepower balance. And its just an idea.

I would like to point out to all CMDR without prejudise that the Galaxy that FD developed is huge we can each play our own style without to much interference unless that is what we are looking for.
I am having a great time being alone, and when the day comes that i want company i will know where to find it:) Fly safe and my answer to players that like to kill just to kill, well we can organize a possy and make them burn their credits until they turn into traders:)

"I guess I'm just one of these guys that (due to age possibly, or having played hundreds of pew pew games already) rather works to build something, seek constructive gameplay instead of only seeking destruction and blow stuff up."....I agree with this; and it could be noted 'Eve' does not make this option available...

Stop QQing and go play X-Rebirth if you don't want to get nailed by PvP players.

Nope...Just go Solo or group.

True :) Loved to see those kind of players reduced to sideys. And i don't feel bad at all. If they want to destroy and laugh at others misery why not make them taste some of the same poison?. We're touching a different matter now: organized gaming. If i stated the above to many of them they would laugh because either they have larger ships, lots of friends, or belong to some organized group (CODE for example). I still think some adjustments are to be made by FD before we enter that topic.

Put a player bounty on me I go to a star port, buy a base Sidey, go outside and let a buddy blast me. He gets a few bucks and when he gets a PC bounty levied I return the favour.

Sorry man, I think it will only make matters worse. In that case, "the gangs of idiots" (as someone above nicely put it) will use it. One from the oh-we-are-soo-macho-and-tough would pester other CMDRs to have a multimillion bounty on his head, then one of his cronies would kill him to collect the bounty, then they'll switch places and so on...

Having their legal status ruined with the stations and police, not being able to buy themselves out so easily - now that's the better way.

Simply go solo or group. The game is EXACTLY the same, only without morons.
