A bounty hunting tale

As I was doing my rounds between the station and the star, I noticed a Wanted Sidewinder. Check Contacts tab: it belonged to The Purple Clan, the local mob. I started to chase it, in order to perform an interdiction, but as I got close I just couldn't get behind it. We kept swirling around for a while, until I realized that it was trying to interdict me too. Having done this dance before, I simply started going straight, and set my speed to half.

Sure enough, I was interdicted and immediately submitted. Two seconds after dropping out into normal space I get the "Frameshift charge detected" announcement. He must have seen that my Asp (with four beamers and two multi-cannons) was a bad choice for dinner. I deployed guns and let rip. I got it 30% down before he jumped out. Wake scanner showed which system it jumped to, and I followed suit.

Once out of hyperspace I targeted the Sidewinder again, now with a Clean record, and chased it down. A successful interdiction later, and again it started jumping immediately. Before it disappeared I got another 30% hull shredded, and scanned the wake again. Not getting away that easy!

Now in the third system, and the Sidewinder is again Wanted, and heading for an outpost. I followed it all the way, and when the Low Energy Wake appeared I targeted it and went for it. Turns out I dropped out of super cruise in between the Sidewinder and the outpost, outside of the no fire zone. The Sidewinder again tried to escape, but this time I finally managed to kill it. Success!

A quick look at the Transactions tab showed a new bounty to be picked up: 250Cr. Awwwwhh... so cute. Arriving back at my home station for repair and rearm, my costs were about 5000Cr (mostly fuel and repair due to a choppy interdiction).

Financially it wasn't too good, but damn, THAT WAS FUN! :)

To contrast that chase, I just took down a pirate Anaconda with a 46k bounty! Whoa! Even my Asp had trouble, but damn, shield banks FTW...
