A Brief History of Space (games)

In 1984 a game was given to me by my dad to play on our BBC Model B.

I immediately started playing crying screaming (I was 8) that it was too hard and boring. But played on regardless.

In 1990(ish) my friends and I were playing Elite Gold on the A3000 at school and I finally got yaw boosters!

I then got Frontier Elite 2 and played and played until I finally made enough money for a Panther! I don't think I ever made Elite :(

I bought this game knowing it was Elite, therefore understanding that the premise would be to start in a small ship and build yourself up. Part of this would involve trade to afford upgrades.

I should say now that I am a particularly addictive sort of person, having played most MMOs Everquest in a top raiding guild- so am not necessarily worn down by the "grind" (24 hours in Lower Guk immunises you to boredom :) ) so am loving the game still.

I can't deny some "wishes" - for instance for me a more fleshed out black market - similar to that on Elite 2 where you have to make the right choice of contact.

Following on from this I think separating stolen goods and illegal goods would add depth and more "risk/reward". Currently if I buy narcotics and take them where they are illegal I make a loss... So none of us do it.

Imagine if "illegal" items had a massive markup but a larger fine for being spotted. Whereas "stolen" goods kept the cheaper premise as you've not spent anything to get them.

Similarly - and this could be in the pipeline I don't know- I think a "bartering" system for missions where you can ask for more money by promising to get there faster.

Just a couple of ideas to make things more interactive.

How did you know I was talking about Raster... :)

I also did Ancient Cyclops... When it was one specific spawn and took months!

Is it bad that I don't understand either of the responses to the OP?

Raster is an Everquest joke he was the target of my 24 hr stint - a notoriously rare spawning mob.

The second I'm not sure
