Worth picking up a Diamondback Explorer and fully kitting it out for combat and light trading(PP play)?
Definitely a great ship for jumping, and a good scoop will get you further, and still have space for trading or hauling cargo. As far as the combat goes, terrible. Although I did purchase one and garaged my Vulture, which is a beast. I pretty much concentrate on the combat in the game, and although the DE says that it has a 5 manuervering, they are flat out lying, as that thing is one step away from a Type 6 when it comes to its ability to manuever for combat. Just a brick. I actually downgraded to a DS and plugged a few A rated Shield Boosters to the A shields, while keeping the weight low, and man, with those A4 thrusters pushing twice its mass, it is a sick little beast in combat. The DE has better weapons, but the thrusters are always near the mass no matter how you set it up for combat. Plus it is dog slow.
So, I would actually suggest the DS if you are on a budget but want to perform combat missions. Alternatively, the Cobra, as our fellow commander said is a great all around choice, and you just cannot get better than the Cobra when you want to multitask in a ship under several million credits.
FYI, fully loading the DE cost me 10 million credits, while the DS, I think between 3 and 4 million. It is a fun little rocket ship, the DS.
