A call for patience

On each newsletter and many threads in my mind many are starting to sound a bit impatient. So perhaps let's think a little that FD need to focus on several audiences and platforms and so let's just be rather more patient and less negative with the comments.

The game will get there for all the audiences, but it will take a few more years.

But even now the game is great.

It can be greater, but patience ....

Yup. Elite has been out less than a year live but already has more features than EvE did. SC has yet to release, NMS has yet to release and no one knows how the game play or any other features those games have will fare after 7 months. A lot of people forget that a game of this scope will take time and a lot of patience.

I think you're overlooking something. FD has already reneged on one promise, Solo Offline mode, as a consequence of which few are prepared to be patient. Suspicion has replaced trust you see. And this is perfectly fair.

I was shocked by not getting offline too, but nevertheless I can see and accept why they did it in this stage of development.
They might still implement offline when the game has reached a more complete state.
DB himself has said they have not given up on offline completely.

To say that suspicion has replaced trust might be true for some, but not for those who (are willing to) understand the difficulties of the development of a huge and unique spacesim like this.
Not being prepared to be patient only because there will be (for the time being) no offline mode is incredibly immature as far as I am concerned.
Everybody can see that this game is shaping up to become every Elite fan's wet dream.

And considering the fact that FD is not even close to the size of devs like UBI, EA and Rockstar they do a truly amazing job and they deliver a quality that can only be admired. Just look at where the 'competitor' with his monstrous budget is at now and then look at the incredible stability and productive development we can see happen in front of our eyes with this new Elite game.

But yes, this is a huge, never before seen space sim project in the midst of development and it does take time to create this.
Is that really too much to ask?
What are we...? A bunch of whining toddlers who demand instant gratification?

I wondered how long it would be before the name calling started.

Are you new to the internet?

There is no such thing as patience on the internet.

Game is out of 7 months and there is nothing to do in it apart from grind in the hope that when good stuff comes out you will have enough credits to actually enjoy it. Last two update announcements (PP and CQC) aren't anywhere near what they said they would be and PP is incredible flawed and boring. 1.2 was a feature that no MP game should have been without and 1.1 was a bug patch.

The fact anyone is still playing is a testimony to stubbornness

I think people have been very patient in all, you getting impatient with patient people isn't a good thing

Er, I can't.

I can certainly see that it has the potential to get there. But I don't see indications that FD are working on the bits to even get close to what I dream for. So I guess that makes me a whining toddler, then.

Yes you should completely ignore the context.
That is why the context is there, to be completely ignored.

Only if you demand instant gratification.

I am sorry you can't see it. You will just have to wait and see if it will happen.
I am wondering if you know that FD have stated repeatedly that this is at least a ten year project?
I think that is an indication of what FD feels that needs to be done and the time they need to do it.
It is very telling about their dedication, but also about the amount of work that has to be put in.

One thing that FD could do, that would help people be more patient,

Roadmap

doesn't need timescales but does need what order things are being worked on, this doesn't have to go into detail to give away features. just people are very frustrated at no information and acknowledgement of area's that really do need tweaks.

Thanks to bad instancing, there is no open mode. It's just a fallacy. Being patient, but please fix this sort of thing before working on combat arenas etc etc.

I'm well aware of the context, as is anyone who reads your post, but I see nothing in it to modify my view that your language is inflammatory and offensive to those who have a different view to your own. And I've no doubt this is deliberate on your part.

I've had quite enough of you.

Frontier filing Chapter 11 and closing doors?

Sorry to be pedantic (its the autism) - but Frontier Development is a UK firm. UK firms can't go into Chapter 11. They can become insolvent, but there is no sign that Frontier will be heading in that direction any-time soon. See here for the Full year trading update for 2015

Agree with you on this score.. a roadmap would be really awesome.

I'm well aware of the context (... left out the part where you presume again to speak for others.)

But you choose to ignore it.

There are different kinds of different views.
I take offense to people who suggest (for others) that presumably "suspicion has replaced trust", and thus poison the well and create a suffocating toxic atmosphere. I consider this to be very nonconstructive.

You choose to react to the last concluding sentence and ignore the rest. Your choice.

When offline got canceled I was hit just as hard as anybody else. I NEVER play games online/multiplayer. Never, ever. The last time must have been 15 years ago or something like that.
Elite is the only one, because offline got canceled.
I was shocked to the core when it happened, but I also understand why this is in the current state of development. I do not hold on to a grudge and do not keep sulking in a corner.

Unfortunately to be a member of this forum if you aren't actively trying to sleep with the devs or you are judged to despise them, told to go play something else because this game isn't for you or told "sorry this game isn't what you thought it was" (or all of them).

Its pretty farcical to be honest and is the sole reason this is the only forum I have ever had to use (extensively) the ignore user option.

Plenty of patience here, OP.
Patience doesn't come for free though, let's be clear about that.
For as long as i have exercised that patience since my original purchase, i have also applied a closed wallet policy. This will include paid expansions.
If FD can afford that for years to come, by all means, take years to flesh out the game.
Fair 'nuff ?

Well true EVE is on the market for quiet some time now. But also never forget how EVE was created.... CCP wanted to combine two great games at that time. CCP had the idea to mix Elite and Ultima Online. Spacesim (Elite) with big scale PVP and MMORPG Elements(Ultima).

ED will enounter technical problems as soon as the game will get more dense or complex since its p2p and not really server based. You will never have such big scaled battles like in EVE. For this they need to change the hole game again which i doubt will happen.

My personal result is: ED had 15 years to see what the others did with their ideas and how they solved techincal issues. Still they decided a really strange way to go when it comes down to Game/Multiplayerdesign.

This game is literally a baby in its development cycle. The devs recently said at Lavecon that they're looking at a 10 year development plan.

The fact that Frontier have "reneged on a promise" just goes to show that developers shouldn't be making promises at all. Look at Star Citizen with it's FPS module for another example.

I could very well ignore you for implying that to be on the opposite side of the argument, the poster is actively trying to sleep with the devs. The very fact you even mention that you are going to ignore somebody is just silly silly silly.
