A case for hardcore mode?

I know there isn't a hardcore mode, but I have been considering doing a self-imposed hardcore. Meaning I reset my save, and see how far I can get without dying. In the inevitable event that I do die, I start over. My question is, does anyone else play like this? If so, do you have any conditions for restart? Like if you die in the bubble, do you always reset? Or do you just sidewinder restart?

Your thoughts appreciated!

that probably will be a thing when we can have more than 1 CMDR per account

Nope. Resetting doesn't seem like hardcore to me. If you Compare that to Fallout New Vegas (which I will!) hardcoe applied a harsher set of rules to the game but you still had saves.

That would be the kind of hardcore I would go for.

Basically in ED with reset/Hardcore I'm pretty sure I'd never get past a Sidey. Maybe.

Permadeath runs are usually referred to as "ironman". "Hardcore" usually refers to increased lethality (everyone has less HP/weapons do more damage) and the removal/reduction of convenience mechanics (for example, no magically restoring all health and limbs with just 1 hour of sleep in Fallout: New Vegas).

They can be combined of course, "Ironman Hardcore" is a possibility...

There have been some threads some time ago with a few CMDRs extolling their implementation of Hardcore/Iron Man, some just don't allow insurance rebuy's, others have a. Dice roll on death to see if your pod got back, I think a hardcore few actually delete save and restart.

whatever floats your boat!

A hardcore mode would be awesome!! I think the main reason that Frontier doesn't do this is because it would divide the community. The same reason they don't have PVE servers. So the only way it would work is if hardcore mode existed as a subset of Open mode. For people that want an Open mode, I don't think they'd have any issue living side by side with people who were playing in normal mode since that would increase the sense of challenge :)

For people with experience, playing the game on hardcore mode would be an awesome way to experience the game again. I would definitely buy a 2nd account if Frontier implemented this!!!

Crikey, it is hardcore already - you have to sign over 7 years of your life just to poop your FSD.

Play it blindfolded, and control it by K&M with your feet, that should keep you quiet until something happens in the game dev.

I second a hardcore/iron man mode however, for that to work there would need to be a dedicated hardcore/iron man mode server where all players are on equal terms. I started a thread months ago that gained a lot of favor from the idea.

Play it all the time.
Only one rule: Rebuy = Dead : Reset save. No ifs, buts, or just this once.
It's a different game this way.
I think more fun.
Oh and unless you are really good - you better like flying Sidewinders ;)

A second suggestion: you could play in Ultimate Hardcore mode: in real time, without FSD / superbore / space-warping effects.

On my second account I have been playing UH for 2 years, and at the present time my ship is 16 million km from the start location.

Although very little has happened in this play style, I find the gameplay comparable to ED played normally, and it is more exciting than powerplay.
