Newcomer / Intro A change of career . . . . (any penalties to swapping ships)

Given that buying a new ship and storing the one you have will often leave it a few hops away (at least) is there any real penalty to just selling your craft and changing to one for a different role for a while, and then buying a craft the same as the old one when you get where you're going or get bored?

I understand that outfitting etc is dependant on the stocks etc that are available where you decide to swap again, but are there any monetary penalties (do you sell/trade ships/components for the same price that you buy them)

Not really, although i have been led to believe its a good idea to downgrade all your items to as basic as possible before you sell. Something about not getting full % for whatever you sell. Not sure how true this is, but i'm paranoid like that. :D

You'll lose 10% of the value of the ship when you trade it in.

I also *heard* that you only get 90% of the value of modules if you sell the ship with them attached, and thus it's better to sell as much of the equipment as you can before you sell the ship (I've not confirmed this personally though, take that as you will).

Ok - I can handle losing 10% after my major cargo loss last night I think a bit of bounty hunting over Xmas will be just what the doctor ordered.

Hopefully I can then resume my trading/exploring career.

May even just leave a slightly upgraded fighter/hunter at the station when I'm done if I've made enough credits for when I return.

Thanks for he info

If you have invested a decent amount of cash into your ship, save it.

If you are going to trade, get rid of it and invest in a combat ship when you have more credit.
