PvP A Coalition of the Willing Victim. Step forward Pirate Friendly Traders and speak.

It be strange times, it be.

I have heard it said that some traders, brave souls, like a little pepper on their chips. A chance to lose some credits that makes the credits earned all the more sweeter in this very mixed metaphor, yar.

Step forward and tell me you like a little honest Piracy before tea.

Yes, that's actual Piracy, none of your Murder Hobo's and Fancy Dan Mur-diddly-derers. So let's not turn it into THAT argument. I will personally rob the grandmothers of the first person to insert the word 'Mode' into this thread. I'll do worse to the second person, I'll marry the old tart and then you'll have to buy my presents at Christmas and the like, Yarr!

Actual Piracy as being defined as;

Asking in Firm Voice, as if to a dog, for goods
Accepting a fair division of spoils if offered
Not following the mark as if a beggar for a while
Chastising only those who fire first, run first, look at ye funny first.

have at it, cry havoc and let loose the dogs of FORUM war!

Yours, a-quiver,

Anopheles

That funny feeling you get, you know, the twinge in your calf when you bend over, not an ache as such, but deep, maybe like a cigarette burn?

Sorry, can't help you. My new commander isn't into trading and is in a bit of hot water lately... Just a minor disagreement and a lack of understanding that lead to a few unwanted skimmers being shot up with along with a station or 2 and maybe a police vessel, but I can't confirm that last one...

I'd considered Piracy while I was waiting for the download of Elite to finish.
By the time it was done, I'd found there were too many other ways to make more credits with less work.

When I trade, which is pretty rare, I will always do it in open and appreciate honest piracy. However, unless I know I'm unable to escape due to containment missiles or the like, I will always try to run before giving in to demands. If in the process I lose bowel control, then I'll stop and give in to demands.

On the flip side I'm more often on the giving than the receiving side, so practice what you preach I suppose.

With that said, I do like like piracy, it is too bad it's not really a well developed occupation, but then neither are the other occupations well developed. Oh well.

Oh I almost forgot. MODE! *triggered*

If the proposed karma mechanic actually deals with the problem of griefers, then you may see more folks including traders flying in Open. Until then I am afraid not much is going to change.

I trade in a T9 exclusively in Open, unarmed but shielded. Met very few pirates, and even fewer competent ones. Love em to death though, makes trading less deathly dull.

That said, not been pirated for months. I guess they're a dying breed, which is a damn shame. I remember the good old days of the New Caribbean.

EDIT: OP, didn't your avatar used to be a pretty lion?

Indeed it did, as Befit the Lion of The New Carribean

Perhaps one day, it shall roar again?

If you would like to make it so, our door is always open. Modesty and forum rules prevent me from linking to the enjin page for the Code, but the clever amongst you will decypher my... code.

Speaking for myself - piracy isn't about credits, it's about the interaction I get to have with other CMDRs.

When they get away, when they stay and fight, when they stay and just give it right over - PvP piracy has provided more fun than most any PvE ever has.

I love mining, and I would fall over if some legit pirate pulled me as I was coming out of the rings with a butt-load of metals. That would make my day.

Plenty of traders flying in open. I pulled six of them just recently, off-peak hours outside of the CG.

Plenty of traders, flying all manner of trading vessels.

I despise trading, but this has piqued my interest. I don't have time for the game right now, (RL) but when I get some time, I'll rig up an armed trader and see if I can find you. I think I know the general area. Catch me if you can. :)

I remember the buzz I used to get with a drom full of perishable cargo through space where it was deemed illegal by the player groups who ruled there. Freelancer...long time ago...however...that was genuine roleplay. The police would just kill ye on sight and the pirates wanted paid and the longer yer journey takes, the more profits ye lose...and lo and behold the fastest way was by using the jumpholes that were slap bang in the middle of the worst places to be when the server was full.

Fun times...straight up genuine roleplay piracy used to be much more common...nowadays not so much so repped ye and cya in the black...or not ^

Be at the weekend I think. The Pixie Gloriosa demands my attention for a few days and I fear her more than I fear interdiction. Given me an idea. See if you can drum up some other traders to do a run through and I'll see if i can't drum up some pirates.

I'm happy to be pirated, but not really a trader... Typical cargo are (fuel) limpets, alien artefacts (in case needed to unlock the door to Raxxla), maybe a Hutton mug or three. Typically in a DD5 Cobra MK3 or Clipper, so i'll probably try running, and you'll need to shoot out my engines.

TBH I've actually considered going pirate myself, but overall I think i'm more a ninja sort :p Maybe one day i'll look up The Code.

This weekend sounds good. Saturday isn't looking good for me, but I should have time on Sunday. I don't know many traders, but I'll ask around our discord.

Running the gauntlet could be fun. I'm on Central Time.

I've been pirated at CGs by Code members and enjoyed the experience. At the time I was in a Clipper, so I could easily have avoided them.

I've also had a couple of known SDC CMDRs attempt to gank me at a CG, and I enjoyed getting away. No conversation involved, so not quite as enjoyable as the Code experience.

I've built a Type-7, based on Rinzler070707's vid, for use in future CGs. Tested it at the burning stations. I've even called it the "Type-7 Target" to avoid any misunderstanding.

I remember an old thread, maybe a year ago, in which people were discussing creating a private group where pirates and traders could do precisely this. Traders would take juicy cargo and be reasonable, and pirates would do a bit of RP and try and not use excessive force when disabling their prey; you won't be guaranteed that you won't see the rebuy screen, but at least you'll have the comfort of knowing it was an accidental kill. I'd be willing to give it a try.
