Ships A combat ship under 50 million, an exercise in shipbuilding

Like many of you, I enjoy buying and building ships, simply for the mental exercise and the joy of flying a wide variety of ships. Sure, I could min/max my ships for maximum damage and so on - but what fun is that? So, my recent project was to build a combat ship, for less than 50 million credits. I'm curious what others can come up with, following the "rules" below.

  • Total ship cost is less than 50 million credits, with no discounts used such as: Elite status or LYR stations
  • Ship should be built with combat in mind
  • No engineering, I'm looking for base ship builds
  • Have fun

You're going to need cargo space to store limpets, so unless you want to take something else out to free up some cargo space you're better off dropping the repair limpet controller. If you are set on keeping the repair limpets, I would personally recommend tossing the 2A SCB.

As for my own submission, I'm going to go with a bi-weave hull tank Vulture for 21.2M CR. It's a bit limited in what weapons it can use, but you could easily swap out one or both of the pulse lasers for multi-cannons or fixed frags.

You're absolutely right. When I initially did that build, I had a cargo bay in there for the limpets. I must have saved the wrong link, when I was testing a variant of that build. So, swap the SCB for a small cargo bay and I'm set.

How about a 3-for-1 deal, with cash left for repairs/re-arm :D

I find combat is more fun in small ships. It may not be efficient, but it brings a smile.

Eagle - very nimble but fragile. Only a tiny shield, but it comes back in seconds. Pulse turret keeps your target busy while you line up the rails.

DBS - Harder hitting, but still handles well

Viper IV - not as nimble, but can take a beating

Hmm, I didn't specify it so I guess guardian stuff would be ok. Let's see what you can build...
Looks like shield tanks are back on the menu!

Imperial Courier with ~850 MJ of shields and 500 hull https://s.orbis.zone/4q8q
FAS with ~900 MJ of shield and 1290 hull https://s.orbis.zone/4q8p

The FAS will have issues with running out of power for weapons, but you can swap out one of the shield boosters for a HRP and have enough capacity to play with the weapons

I love this concept! A ship for every budget! If you could do one for under 5 mil...

The concept seems to open to me. Building a ship under 50M is easy without any other guidance. I challenge you to get a sidewinder to cost MORE than 5M for example.

I think it would be a better challenge for example: A large combat ship without engineering... Etc. Some more restrictions or specifications to make it an actual challenge.

I haven't looked at your build but here is my first choice for <50 mill.
