A community effort to make Open Play better/ Systems Blacklist Idea

Hello Commanders,

We already have many threads of people whining about open play. How it is so empty and shallow. Posts upon posts of people complaining about griefers who destroyed them with no reason. How GrindPlay favourites briefing behaviour and makes players lock themselves away in solo or group play. We whined whined and whined to FDev, but what if we actually take action and try to change things?

I know many Commanders may be lazy and wait for mommy frontier to help them, but they have some other things on their minds right now, and I think it'll take some time for them to do something, if anything at all.

I am curious to see if this gaming community will actually act as one and do something. It happened before, I don't think we couldn't do it again.

Since naming and shaming is forbidden on this forums, the intent of assembling a Blacklist of all the players who destroy others with no reason is rather difficult to accomplish. But what if we get something here on the forum, maybe even on this thread, that can tell act as information to avoid said griefers for people who still want to enjoy everything Open play has to offer? I had an Idea in mind.

What if each CMDR who is destroyed without reason or sees other players briefing on newbies or even 'conda/ "end game" players (it can happen to them too!) reported on a thread where he was killed and from who, without naming. As an example:

"I was destroyed by a griefer in Kremainn piloting a Viper."
"A FdL is destroying other players at Cleve Hub"
"Pirate opened fire on me for no reason in Eravate"

And so on. Someone could make a Blacklist of the places where griefing/excessive pirating is really strong, so people who wants to be relatively safe can avoid those systems while any bounty hunter could use this real time info to where to find some pvp and give those trigger happy Cmdrs a reason to shoot.

It could work like this:

ERAVATE
High risk system.
2 Griefer Anacondas reported destroying newbies.
5 Cobra pirates destroying traders without warnings (wings of 2/3 reported Interdicting in this system)

Kremainn
Low Risk system.
2 Vultures spotted suspiciously killing players with no apparent reason.
1 Viper is killing players randomly at a RES.
3 bounty hunters CMDR in systems "patrolling"

Now, you could think "but in every system there's a top 5 bounties thing" Well, here its a comparison between that and this kind of Blacklist.

They count only five people, instead this could virtually count limitless.
It's not in real time, but posting here after being griefed is.
That is only system relative vs galaxy feed.

And last but not least, what if people would start trolling and reporting destruction that did happen?

1) I don't know what they could archieve by doing that, considering that all BHunters could simply confirm/deny their posts.
2) if this community is so immature that it can't or doesn't even want to make something to make Open play a little more livable for newbies untill FDev does something whatever. I tried making my part. I guess we can simply lock ourselves in solo play.

Thanks for the attention and the time given to read this post.

It's an interesting idea but commanders that attack without cause could view the forum just as fast people can post. They would just move onto the next "safe" system. Maybe there is a way to combat this but I can't think of anything. I think the main benefit would be that players could check this list and go after said "griefers" but again it's very easy for then to just leave the system. I think people just need to outfit better for the situation. It may cut time on your journey buy running without shields but you must learn to accept the risk that incurs. It would be nice though if the community was more active in defending other players, I'll give you that. Maybe I should go to lhs3447 sometimes and keep an eye out.

Nice ideas.

But, wouldnt this be better solved ingame? Requires of course some additional things to be implemented:

- Some bounty hunter device which can be outfitted that picks up S.O.S. signals from players from nearby systems, if they are attacked and clean (only if the opponent is not clean).(distance in ly shown and maybe with nav-lock to destination)?

Also how a bout some kind of escort service that can be rented (npcs) that escort the lone trader. A newbie could get such an escort service for the first few flights for free via the contacts tab

It would also be great if the game would allow the players to open up search-wing-requests ad/hoc groups to form wings with specific goals. E.g. Bulletin board shows "Looking for a group of 4 experienced pilots to track down pirates in nearby systems." this mission is posted in a group of nearby systems, pilots who join form a wing with other ppl who take the mission. The wing will receive local transmissions from stations from nearby player kills / wanted players who have been sighted nearby.

I totally agree with you, however, I think that the BHunters would check all the system where is prey is likely to he found. I mean, you could go from a hot system to a safe one, but what if that safe system was hit just a few moments ago. You'd be running away from some BHunters...straight into the others.

That's a good point. I suppose too, having something, even if there are inherent flaws, is still much better than the way things are now. As you say too it could go the other way ad make it harder for griefers to escape.

Edit: sorry if it sounds like I'm putting down your idea too, I'm not, anything that isn't built into the game is going to have some potentially unavoidable flaws.

Great. And when your kids get their lunch money stolen, why don't you just advise them never to eat lunch again, while you're at it?

Because theft of physical goods = destroying a virtual ship in a game? Wildly unrelated comparisons don't really get your point across. What was your point again?

CMDR Shane.

As long as you dont name commanders i dont see a problem. . The problem is going to be there are alot of the same ships flying around that had nothing to do with causing any problems that will start to get attacked.
So really you would just be making matters worse.

I dont do open play so go for it

nice idea but can't see it working

personally, i think name & shame should be allowed. encouraged even. I really don't get that decision.

It's discouraged most likely because

1. While destroying new players for no reason other than "the lulz" is annoying and totally not cool, it doesn't violate any sort user agreement.

2. Groups of players harping on a single player for griefing quickly turns into harassment.

Well it's either implement a CMDR blacklist in game by Fdev or get an application running from all the modders in this community. But hey, we try what we can eh?

If you destroy people for no reason, so Clean people, You get WANTED. That's what makes it work and let pvp BHunters sufficient clearance to take the shot, I think.

in any way shape or form related to what I said? Because I don't get it. Would you please explain your reasoning to me please?
Is this

And what if "bad" commanders will post lies like: i was destroyed on xxx system don't go there. The entire effort is based on honor only and, maybe because i played EVE too much, honesty and honor is hard to find in a mmo game.
My opinion is will be better if FD will implement a system like in EVE (i know many people dislike EVE here), a system when you open the map you can see in space almost real time how many people died in the last hour in the system. Much more effective and imo not very hard to implement.

Hi all. Just a gentle reminder for everyone - we already have threads discussing name and shame rule on the forum (click) and different play modes (click). Please stay on topic if you want to avoid merging this thread with either of the mentioned ones. Thanks :)

What we need is the ability to send an "under attack" message to other players on a list, sent via one keystroke since under attack.
For example, willing players add their name to a list. If somebody is under attack, they can call for help.
People on the list within X light years get the message with an automatic NAV route to the attack. Can quickly show up to help.
Course pirates and griefers would be able to do the same thing, but it would be interresting for sure.
This would take an effort from FDEV, but would be a nice addition to the emersion.

However, this too could be used wrongly....nevermind.

If we had an alarm possible things can happen that increase the fun for some one:

You press the alarm and
1. Fellow pilots come to help you
2. Fellow pilots come to kill you
3. Fellow pilots come to kill you both
4. Nobody comes at all

Maybe its a nice thought for the SOS thing but actually its already in the game. You report crimes and the systems units will appear after some time.
Then again how long will a sidewinder survive shots from a conda or Vulture ? A few seconds i guess.

As for open, there are no missions or anything that support teamplay. While bounty hunting could be ok in a wing, most of the time there are to less targets to have fun. The only exeption would be CZ.
For what reason i should join open, the PvP mode of ED if i dont want PvP?

There is a Beacon in-game to call for help from your wing. The Report Crimes toggle only turns on/off your own crimes being reported to you.
Get right behind a bigger ship in a Sidey and you won't take a hit. You can stay in that pocket easily as the Sidey is the most maneuverable ship due to its size.
Bounty hunting is a gas in a wing. So is trading when you share all profits and for extra security, add a tank ship like a Python or 'Conda.

You should join Open once and a while just to experience the real danger of this game. Nothing beats the adrenaline rush of narrowly escaping with your life.
Hope this helps.

Because it can be abused. Players and player groups could name and shame innocent pilots as a form of revenge or griefing. And there are always two side to every story - maybe that ram really was an accident, etc. There at least needs to be a burden of proof before someone is named and shamed, and accused players may not have a platform to defend themselves or give their perspective on the alleged incident (not everyone comes on the forums). This is why we have the concept of "innocent until proven guilty" as the core of modern law.

The global stats on the galaxy map are great in EVE, agreed!
Very useful to see where the hotspots are when plotting a route or a patrol.
And the bit I like best is that it serves to inform the players so they make smart decisions. You are free to ignore it and die horribly, which is fine :D
They would definitely be a good addition to Elite.

What about extending the "Report crimes against you" alert to all CMDRs within a certain range and not only to useless NPC cops?
