Newcomer / Intro A control setup for you Xbox controller users ;) Also Hello! :D

Hello! I'm a new player here as of Friday April 24'th. :) My username is Madruger Okarr (or just call me Paul as that is my real name if you so wish ^-^) on the game and i run on a private server called Mobius for PvE purposes and video recording. It's a pleasure to meet you! But enough formalities, I should get to the nitty-gritty of this...

So, as the introduction says, i'm one of the few who use an Xbox One controller and had a really rough time with keyboard controls. After digging around I could never find a really good simplistic design I liked for gameplay controls. After several failed attempts I settled on an "Ace Combat"-esk control scheme that i made personally by playing several skirmish battles in my AC5 game, and then transferring the feeling of those controls to the Xbox One controller via Custom setup here on Elite:Dangerous..

. Below I hope to either describe my control setup OR post a series of pictures to guide you through a fairly solid control scheme that will allow you to fly by your second day of gameplay like this:

Lemme tell ya, it took me a week to get these controls just right, and man does it feel good <3 The only thing i'm not too fond of is how the left and right D-pad trigger my target switch even though i have a combination button pushed down as well. Also, secondary fire does not trigger if you are throttled back (lowering your speed) so be careful! Other than that you shouldn't have much trouble getting the hang of these controls.

So, I went ahead and made a file on my deviantart with all the control panels, one by one for you to follow in 1920 x 1080 resolution. Now idk if it'll actually show it in that size though. I do hope it helps you all however!

I'm a fellow Xbox One controller user (and dying for them to release the wireless dongle for PC - but that's another issue).

However, ewwww, you have yaw on the triggers? That's not how I play at all. I put yaw on the right analogue left/right with up and down being lateral up/down thrusters. That way I can use the sticks for all ship movement needed.

Forward/Back/Left/Right lateral thrusters on the Dpad for landings and combat.

And I click the right analogue stick for head look and use the dpad to move between panels.

I guess everyone has their own favourite setups and it's great that FD have put so much flexibility to allow the gamer to set up their system to exactly meet their needs.

One thing I had no idea you could do that you have taught me - combinations of buttons like RT+Y. So rep for that. Maybe I need to try and map a few additional features now...

That sounds a little rough tbh. Thrusters i got both the strafe and laterals on there. it's much smoother to transition between them at least for me. Holding B button and hitting the Select button is how i head look. but i quickly choose between them with B and D pad up left and right, so i don't really need it except for target finding. It saves alot of hassle :) And like i said the yaw thrusters feel like Ace Combat since R2 and L2 on the PS2 were those thrusters. But it's nice to hear other combinations. That's actually one i did try tbh.

Yeah, the beauty of the game is that it is flexible enough for everyone to control it how they like, no matter if they are using gamepad, mice or full HOTAS setups with Oculus Rift.

Fly safe commander.
