A Coriolis With Arms!

I searched but I couldn't find any reference to this in the forums, so sorry if this is old knowledge, however I thought I'd post these pics of Normand Platform - A Coriolis with arms!

Quite a few of them out there. My home base at 10 CANUM has one. Word of caution - Don't fly a 10mill ASP loaded with 1 million c worth of cargo, anywhere near those arms, especially whilst under the influence of Alcohol.. It tends to end quite badly :/

First time I'd seen one and I've been to quite a few systems. I guess with the number of systems available, there's still going to be something new.

Those arms certainly look like they're made for hammering ships.

In beta 2 i was pretty shocked to see one. While boosting my type 9 to get to the entrance i wasnt paying attention and it hit me right in the face. I wasnt amused :p

The stations are procedure generated from component elements. If you look at the stations and break down the components potentially a combination of those elements could be realised at any given station. I believe from what I have seen that the size of the elements is also subject to a set of rules. If you examine the structures you can see that in this case the arm is actually a number of smaller elements. Potentially going forward those large arms could become a docking arm for a Dreadnought size ship.

This station design that we are seeing translated to the surface of the planets gives me considerable confidence that on the planet surface they can realise some impressive landing sites.

Yeah I lovingly call them the pylons of doom. I give stations with those a VERY wide girth until I am staring straight into the docking bay.

I would love for those arms to have some obvious purpose... such as carrying solar panels, for instance... or having cargo containers attached to them... but as of now they don't really make any sense.

I'd imagine that the starports gym would be situated at the end of those arms.

Weight lifting at less than 1g is kind of showy.

I can't see them being docking arms. The ends of those arms would be moving very fast and once something was docked there it would be subject to heavy G forces.

I think they are used for separation. The high centripetal effect would probably be useful for that.
In the fringe worlds, maybe they are also used as torture chambers for smugglers ''Oh, now they're spinning up the station again. Guess they've caught another slave trader'' :D

Still can't believe this is the first one I've seen. I've been playing since PB and in Beta 2 I went right round the bubble and in Beta 3 I've been a fair way.

Nevertheless, this has been an entertaining thread - thanks. :]

One Coriolis station (or two?) in Standard Beta 1 had such arms. It makes it much easier to find the entrance :)

Can I just say how much I hate these stations.

Yes between my own idiot actions, a freeze on my PC and a mad panic I have now been killed twice by the arms hitting into me.

Cost me over 600,000 in insurance for me ASP.

I Hate these stations.....lol

And that's not the ones with 4 arms like they had in Frontier Elite 2! I'm still waiting on those.

It would be nice if those things had an actual purpose and that be modeled in the game like offloading mining gas or something like that etc.

That's where they fill ketchup bottles... You know the one's that you can never get any ketchup to flow out of?

They could be used as an interesting death penalty. I imagine the g force in there would be extreme.

About three or four times what it is in the inhabited sections. ~4g would probably kill you eventually, but it would take a very long time. If you want to torture someone to death, dehydration is probably easier.
