Newcomer / Intro A Couple of Questions About Silent Running

I know that firing one's own weapons breaks silent running. I have two questions regarding this (player vs player):

1) How long after firing your weapons before a ship is invisible on radar and the contact list again? Does one need to do anything besides wait? For example, retract hard points or disable and reenable SR.

2) Will an SLF break the mothership's silent running? It shouldn't IMO. For example, I should be able to remain invisible in a Krait while my SLF is attacking an enemy, assuming my Krait doesn't fire its weapons.

3) Is there anything else that breaks silent running that I'm unaware of? AFAIK, only firing weapons and being hit with emissive rounds defeats SR. I'm strictly talking about radar visibility and target locking. I'm well aware of how night vision "defeats" SR in a strictly visual way.

0) You are an unresolved contact on the radar. That's one of those flickering white markers. I don't know (and haven't done testing) on when you turn from not found at all to unresolved. But for your questions, you don't disappear completely, you go unresolved.

1) About 2 seconds. Tested this with a cold ship, silent running not on and hardpoints out.

2) No idea, interesting idea.

3) Proximity does. For a small ship below ~18% this is about 500 m. If you're closer you will be resolved. There is some hysteresis to this, as you need to move further away (about 1000 m) before you turn unresolved after being discovered. Not tested how this works if say 800 m away and you fire your weapons, but I assume it will be no different from being discovered by proximity. About firing weapons: I think you need to hit the enemy to be found. Just shooting isn't enough.

I used to believe this myself, but in a recent thread multiple people have told me that SR makes you completely invisible on radar and contacts list. So all you experts out there, WHICH IS IT?

I tested with a squad member a few weeks back, and I was unresolved, not missing completely. SR or being cold made no difference. I don't know if I don't show up on contact list, and at some point you would be completely invisible on radar if far enough. I haven't tested how far away that is though.

If you want to test tonight (I'm European time) I can run the tests with you personally. There's some more things I'd like to know myself too.

I don't know if it will be tonight, but I wouldn't mind running tests once I finish building my new pirate ship. It may take me a little time (engineering).

No worries, let me know when you want to test. I'm available most evenings European time. Send me a DM here or look for me in game (A. C. Ender) when you want to arrange it.
