a couple of questions

Firstly, and boringly, does the spinning ship when the game loads reflect the ship your piloting at the moment? Because gone are the days when I saw haulers, sideys, anacondas and everything else

Secondly, and more importantly to me, is the traffic report in stations JUST player ships? Or does it include AI ships?

I ask, because I havn't seen a real player since beta and i've played near the core systems every day (in open play every time)

When I say core systems, I mean eranin and closeby.

Thanks for reading, commanders.

Fly safe, and if you can't fly safe - be lucky!! :p

Edit:before anyone replies about instances, i'm fully aware of how they work and unless i'm exactly the 33rd player in an instance every single time I jump for weeks and weeks I should
see other players out there. I find this incredibly implausable.

The spinning (loading) ships do not reflect your current fleet. I believe the traffic count includes both human and non playable characters. Depending on situations we’re far more likely to encounter non playable characters. Take care and Elite!

I find it only takes into account player ships, at least in beta. I have been in some very lonely areas where I am the only player and my landings were the only ones that increased the counters

'Core' now appears to be Sol and vicinity. The old beta pill appears to be 'out of the way', with the exception of 'rare commodity' traders.

I don't pay attention to the spinning ship, but I have seen various ship models. As for the traffic reports, they show players only. You can watch Orcas enter and depart a station, then check the traffic report and see no Orca in the list. System after system lists only Sidewinders through Asps in the traffic report while you see numerous bigger ships in the contacts list as you supercruise around.

I thought the spinning ship did now reflect whichever one we last used. Certainly does for all of mine... every time, bang on.

There must be some network bugs then because I saw a traffic report of over 500 ships in BD 47 2112 and havn't seen a real player for 2 months of real time playing nearly every single day (on open play every single time)

In one of the release notes, they confirmed the spinning loading ship now only displayed your current vessel rather than a random selection.

There's more to the instancing of course - it depends on lag, region, etc. I rarely see other players too, though the traffic count always remains quite high. Of course, if it is counting those in group and solo play too, that would go some way to explaining it also.

I'd have thought that the matching wouldn't simply try to find 31 other players to put you in the same island - it's more a best match scenario - i.e. if you have a poor connection I believe you'll very rarely see people (unless you're in a group with people) - if you have a good connection then you should be seeing people - but it'll be unlikely to be a full 31 - I've seen 7 at most I think - but then my connection isn't great .... only my guess-work - no hard fact - just thought I'd share :)
