What's the body in the background that looks like a toy top? I keep seeing it in the sky when I'm playing, and in the galaxy map it's in the background as well, so it's not anything we can get to in the game. And...why do a lot of the black holes in the game look like floating star-covered fish bowls, once you get close to them?

I think the 'spinning top' to which you refer is probably the Andromeda galaxy.

And black holes look so funky because they are so dense that they warp space itself, which causes light to bend in strange ways, like a giant lens but much more extreme.

I would, but the picture upload feature seems to be broken. Every file, regardless of format and filesize is giving me an "invalid file" message.
