Had my first white knuckle experience and thought I'd share.
I have this less than decked out Cobra and had been doing lots of black market deals ( which pay pretty well.. even though I , sometimes, feel I need to take a hot shower after slave running..) I was trying and get it beefed up, when I spotted a sweet pay off on an assassination mission. The mission required me to take out this old cmdr who refused to retire or something.. over in LHS3447.. guess he off some higher ups along the way! So, off I went to LHS3447 to find him. In SC, I rode around for a while scanning down ships.. hoping I would find him in a sidewinder, eagle, or.. an Anaconda! Damn!! Having second thoughts now. I knew I had enough for the re-buy on my Cobra, but also thought my chances to take him out with my 1F and 2E multi cannons and cannons would be a long shot. Also, I'm not great at combat
Anyway I figured what the hell. After minimum fight.. I was able to interdict him and jumped him immediately with all four barrels. Didn't take long for him to turn on me (surprise how fast that thing can turn.. then again.. I'm green remember? so certainly doing something wrong here and take my shields down but I managed to burn away from him and his array of beams. We went around for several minutes, me trying to stay on his rear and and out of range.. avoid his missiles and lasers (still trying to get the hang of flight assist off combat) keeping keeping close watch on both ships damage levels. I was finally seeing progress, to my advantage, had him down to 45% or so and me over 50% , when I heard the call "frame shift drive online" Damn! I hit my sub system switch , trying to target his FSD, but it was too late, he was gone in a poof! I jumped back to SC and, it didn't take long, found him again, but after interdicting the second time , found myself way too close, and at the wrong end of his pointy stick . Panicking , I just laied on my left thruster and yanked back on the stick , (almost fell out of my chair) I tried to keep my barrels on him.. and behind him.. I did manage to get him down to 8% before all my subs went offline and I was sitting there like a pinnate. Oh well. It was a good fight! After doing the re-buy , I abandoned the mission and thought.. this guy deserves to live a while longer.. Maybe next time
