A day in 2.2

Well I was one of the lucky ones, and the download only took 12 minutes. So I dived right in.

1: NPC AI is better, seems to be set for pilots with average combat skills.
2: New station interiors are nice

Then the problems started. The new witchspace view is nice, but time spent in witchspace varied from the normal 12 seconds, to 40 seconds, with three server disconnects. Needless to say the 7 million credit passenger mission covering 3000 light years was a pain.

Coming out of witchspace into an unknown system, frequently resulted in the main star not being discovered until fuel scooping was well under way, or in some cases after fuel scooping was complete. Similarly, advanced discovery scanner honk to new objects being detected was anything up to 10 seconds.

Inside space stations was no better, repair/re-arm/refuel took ages, as did shipyard, bounty contact, everything laggy as hell.

I'm also seeing quite a lot of 'rubber banding' Worse inside space stations and resource extraction sites.

Then there is the audio, why did they mess with the audio? It was great before, now, well "Fuel scooping complete" sounds like it's being announced by an asthmatic mouse with a head cold.

The icing on the cake, game version number left in the alpha release. REALLY?

I love this game, but seriously, 2.2 was NOT READY FOR PRIME TIME.
I appreciate the servers will have been under heavy load on the day of a new release, but this highlights something that has been obvious for weeks, if not months. Frontier needs more servers.

I played the beta just a little bit and they screwed up the voice for ships computer for sure. Sounds like the poor girl is in a tin can now.

They changed Betty? I reckon they had it pretty well nailed before. She was nice and computery (for want of a real word) without being annoying.

They seem to have messed with the levels too. Everything is at normal volume until she shouts "LANDING GEAR RETRACTED" really loudly.

That is rather unfortunate Commander!

I didn't see the latency in performing any of these actions. Although, I did get disconnected a few times coming out of a jump. I checked the server status after my third disconnect and noticed it said it was experiencing issues or issues detected (can't remember the exact phrase, this was around 4AM. I was very tired).

All in all, the graphical updates to witchspace and the stations is fantastic to say the least! Funnily enough, before 2.2, when I entered witchspace after initiating my FSD. I would get a 1-2 second freeze/lag. Now, with the graphical improvement, it doesn't stutter at all. I am using a GTX 970, so it is capable of running anything on Ultra with no worries. I figured optomization was needed.

Anyway, I wouldn't hang too much on these negatives. They will be fixed.. Perhaps the complete overload of people playing caused most these issues. I'm assuming that is why I experienced the disconnections.

I am very impressed with the outcome of Guardians! Sure it'll need patches, fix a few undiscovered bugs, they'll change a few things based on the player's opinions.

Fly safe guys, watch out for those fighters. Agile little buggers.
