Horizons A different idea than most on "The Return"

What annoyed me since the beginning with this "return" update is FDev said "The way they react will be down to how CMDRs first interact with them". People scanned UAs, tried to interact with them in different ways and worked out they were sending messages etc......then eventually traded and shot them. Then along comes Palin. Again, it feels to me as if our hand has been forced towards inevitable conflict and I'm dubious as to whether we'll be able to trade in Alien outposts like I originally hoped. Never say never, but it'd be a fair amount of work on top of what they'd already done to make alien outposts and docking facilities with extra sounds....unless that's what the *bing bong* stuff in the beta was about, of course.

I personally liked the allusions made early on when braneb was saying "what if it's not the Thargoids? Or what if it's not *only* the Thargoids?, and what if they're not the big enemy but someone else is?" or words to that effect. I kinda thought it'd be interesting to have good and bad aliens. Some to trade with and feel spooked when visiting, and some to blow up with extreme prejudice. Still, if we're carving up UAs for meta alloys to plaster onto our hulls to help attack them and sometimes chopping up UAs to give to Master Chefs to create dodgy delicacies for the plates of Imperial Princess #798435 then maybe I'm hoping too much.

I just really like the idea of player agency in this game and I'm often disappointed by the results. I appreciate FDev telling a story, though, and I'm interested to see where it goes regardless as to whether we can influence it o'ermuch.

tl;dr - [alien] might be Ferengi with any luck.

God, please, not the Ferengi! :)

I agree with commander cpeyton94 too. Fortunately, if the rumours are true, and there is indeed a lot of back story on the Thargoids in FDev offices, then I think this alien encounter thing can be drawn out well over a long number of years.

Oh, why not? They forbid their women to wear.... Oh, yeah, that might not be the best thing visually, huh?

Chocolate! Bring lots of chocolate. Bugs love that stuff. Ever see a candy bar on the sidewalk last for more than a minute before billions of ants find it? Yeah, they'll go for that.

Oh, wait...I don't see "chocolate" anything on the commodities list of any station.
Crap! We're toast.

Have you been in Stasis CMDR Leadfoot?... [before the changes made by the 'new' star trek movies].... Zek flew off to Risa with 'Moogie'... left ROM in charge as the new Grand Nagus and ROM's reforms really changed the Ferengi's way of life, including allowing women to wear clothes. :)

...although, given the Ferengi EAT bugs [Tube Grubs, anyone?]... they'd be the perfect ally against the Thargoids :)

Nope, just remembered their original philosophy about clothing. And yeah, loved that episode with Moogie.

"What good are tube grubs if you can't feel them wriggle on the way down?"

Yes, but look at those lobes

Has anyone else noticed how similar the Galnet logo is, to the Thargoid ships?

Maybe we are already being overseen by Thargoids.

Does anyone remember that in the early edition of Elite, the Thyroids sent out little roids to attack you first before the main mothership did? I've not seen anything like that yet with these thyroids encounter vids.

V2k.
