Astronomy / Space A distant Earth-like exoplanet 'could have life'

Cool.

Gliese 581 seems to become more and more interesting system the more we observe it.

So far there are three known bodies in the system that may harbor life:

Gliese 581c, although it seems to be orbiting slightly too close, so the prospects of life are slim and it's probably a fairly massive rocky world with thick corrosive atmosphere and runaway greenhouse effect.

Gliese 581d, which seems to orbit a bit far out, but may be heated by greenhouse effect to reasonable temperatures, and is likely to be a fairly massive ocean world.

And, now, Gliese 581g, which sits right in the middle of Goldilock's zone.
:D

Apart from that, the system should be relatively scenic place, pretty small orbital distances, largish planets crowding the inner system (spectacular transits and morning/evening stars putting our Venus to shame), and innermost planet, Gliese 581e, being heated intensively by both its sun and tidal effects so that it may turn out to be a blob of lava.

All we need to do now is find a way to get there! No point sending a probe, by the time it got there we would hopefully already be there

i don't like to spoil your fantasies
i guess unlikely some life
not even a slime, i expect
no rotation?
if that's true, i mean, hey we're not into a 50's sci-fi novel
a small band that could have the right temperature
3 times earth masses
to much contra rather pro

and further we have only little knowledge about the consequnces that has to geological structure

one side facing allways to the sun?
we have one in our system
edit: almost, a very low rotation in fact
of course far closer and to hot to compare really but
doesn't has this planet a very unique geologic process going on?
i suggest one side facing the sun the other allways in shade
exceptional differences in temparature of the surface that will mean

maybe i can pick up once what harald lesh thinks about that
i guess not far from what i think
we used to have a lot of similar thinking
even when i'm no theoretical astrophysician
he's a rather "cold" one

somebody wants to make headlines i guess
to put his name on front of the newspapers

i know a planet that HAS lifeforms on it
some say even intelligent forms of life
maybe?
let's hope THEY are friendly
it's the third to the central star in his system

we should take care of that one!

Well those 500+ exoplanet discover till now say to me that the chance that stars with several planets are very common is large.

Also a exoplanet or history of our solar system docu say that in a young solar system there could be hundered of planets colliding collecting space debri and small planets, till few what left over and combined planet forms a stable orbital hiarchy.

It make common sense that stable hiarchy meens that orbit are decent space that there gravity doesn't interact so could pulled or crashed out of orbit.

So it can be very common that there is often somethin near the goldylock zone.

Plus life as we know it wich we encounter in our life depends on that. But earth has also much not so known life that livs in vey harsh enviorments. Like toxic heat high presure.

Life has evolve to the seasons and lunar influence. Well that our situation.

Life doesn't depend on that. Life that evolve here might. But out there they eveolve to there specific circumstances.

So tidle locked planet no problem.

It just means more chance of extreem diversity, due to multy ecologic systems on the planet are posible in very different envorments.

Also a planets with extreem wind, from cold side to warm side.
Wich dampening the tempurture difference.

Is there life on that planet? Well I don't know but it could. Till we get the technology to check it out. If there is life or not.
