A disturbance in the force, ..Something I haven't felt since....

Hi to all the fellow "Commanders , Trekkies, Star Warriiors, Buck Rodger wannabes, No Man’s Sky enthusiasts....

Just wanted to drop the thought of since the US sales and preorder go officially tomorrow on PSN,
I feel there is going to be a big media storm about to let loose. Considering Sony has been made to keep quiet, not hardly any.
As well as this would up sales of the VR aspect. Anywhoo...

Just feels like somethings comin

See you Commanders in the black

Be careful when crossing the streams...

We don't know the reason why Sony has been quiet on the Elite: Dangerous front.
Could be as a result of being burnt with NMS. (Possibly)
Could be they don't see it as a big game. (Doubt it)
Could be that Sony are being kept quiet due to licencing issues with Microsoft relating to the exclusivity deal. (Highly unlikely)
Could be that Sony will include it as a part of their upcoming E3 presentation and don't want to get trapped into saying sometime incorrect (possible)
Could be something altogether different (???)

If the PS4 community does what they need to do, the results will speak for themselves.. No worries...

I know its a strange one, my mate who has been a gamer for a long long time hasn't even heard of this game. he is a bit younger so wasn't aware of the originals, but I had to tell him about the game and also direct him to the pre-order and trailer on the PSN.

UNLESS...........................they been quite so they can announce PSVR at E3 followed with quick, huge marketing campaign?

but all just guess work, in reality, who gives a f?@@ because we know and we are telling our friends. word of mouth is the best PR

Maybe the simplest answer is also possible. ED is niche by Sony standards so Sony don't have a budget to do or say anything and it is all with Frontier who have been notoriously 'slow' in the marketing department. First announcement of release for PS4 was in December 2016 - with trailer. Official release date announced with SAME trailer? They didn't even manage to get another new trailer lined up in the better part of 6 months - that's lack of budget.

This is pretty much it. People seem to forget Elite Dangerous is a niche game. It's not a AAA blockbuster for Sony like Horizon Zero Dawn or a big third party franchise like Red Dead or Destiny. FDev seem quite happy for the low key approach as they have done pretty much on both PC and Xbox before us.

Hopefully this means only people who want to get on board do and there won't be lots of negative press. It's not your typical console game, it's not your typical developer.

Enjoy what we have. I think it will be a success on it's own.

to be fair to FDev, it was a niche game in '84. one of the reason i have played every version of elite was because it was a niche game with a small fan base at the time, jump forward to now and it might have bigger fan base and better graphics but it is still niche, and i like it that way

I think Sony are expecting it to do quite well. It has a top spot in the upcoming section on PSN (ie it is one of the first games that is featured when navigating through that section).

Yep I agree with Stormy and LongJohn here. I like to think ED will attract a quality of player, not quantities of players.

I'm hoping the numbers will be big enough to help FDev keep ED alive for years to come, but no more than that :) I enjoy a very popular game, Overwatch, but man, some of the teams I end up on....

Now the big difference with ED is that its gameplay does not rely on teamwork like Overwatch does, so "low quality" players sharing the galaxy with me shouldn't ruin the game like it can on teamwork-based games like Overwatch.

Whenever I look at videos of Overwatch, I have NO idea what is going on. It moves waaaaay to fast for me.

Sony has been quiet cuz they see how many ppl play this game. Why spend money to advertise to 4k ppl? Most of which don't watch television, they only have Netflix or Hulu ...

I did actually see a trailer for elite once just before the force awakens at my local cinema! 😱

That's the only time I've seen any elite coverage outside of Facebook lol ;)

I posted somewhere else a long time ago about Elite....but i can;t rember where. Anyway, the crux of thee matter was that a BIG TITLE like HZD PRE-SOLD more units before release than Elite has sold SINCE IT LAUNCHED. ED just isn't even ON Sony's radar - and sometimes that isnt a bad thing....

Well yeah, there's no way a very niche title like ED is going to sell anything like a Sony first party tripleA title like HZD :)
