A fancy Hauler, but nowhere to go

I just can't continue with ED at this point.

The quick two way trades on the map are dead, for whatever reason. I was doing the run between Asellus Primus and Dahan, but it's just dead now. There's no demand either way.

I've examined the map looking for viable trades, and thought I had something between Bolg and Wyrd. I go down to Bold, stock up on crop harvesters, exit the starport, go to hyperspace - and apparently I can't do that jump.

What is frustrating is I have no idea what the limit is for jumps. I can't find anything on that on board. Perhaps it's hidden somewhere. But aside from trial and error all around the galaxy, I'm a bit stuck. And that doesn't sound like fun.

The galaxy map also seems to always show distance between systems, or whatever it is they're called, relative to wherever you are, rather than the system you clicked on, which makes it harder still to judge where you can go from where.

It just seems done for now. I don't seem to have a method to upgrade the ship, and no idea how far I can go, or what the distance is between different points of interest without going there.

I've been jumping to lawless systems in the Hauler this evening. Filling up with gold and then jumping back out to sell them at the black market.

No weapons, just four pips to engines and employ the Sir Robin technique of running away at the first sight of trouble. Working so far... bank balance doing nicely :)

Try Aulin <-> I Bootis, it's been done to death so the higher profit stuff has hit min/max, but it will still turn a profit.

Hmmm

I've noticed that zeroing in on a specific trade on the trade map (by unchecking commodities) and then taking that commodity to the system that is supposed to want it doesn't work most of the time. You get to the system and there isn't only no demand for the items but it's not even listed as a commodity to sell. Not sure if this is a bug with trading or not.

As for not being able to make the jump it depends on mass. A jump I could make in my Viper with a full hold suddenly became unavailable when I added a new weapon. The more massive the ship the less distance it can jump apparently.

You can check how far you can jump with different cargo amounts on the Galaxy map using the slider.

My first post after joining the beta. Hi everyone!

A list with maximum jump distance for empty ships is here: http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Ships

In-game: go to the galactic map, "Navigation" tab. At the bottom is a slider which you set to your cargo size. Blue lines are the distance you can jump with a full cargo, grey lines are the distance you can jump with the cargo mass as set by the slider.

I will have to check that out. I was looking high and low, zooming in, out, and all kinds of sideways for a two way trade.

Thanks. I'll have a look at that.

Also, it's a work in progress but McLaine's putting together a spread sheet that includes jump range for different ships

The solid lines (either blue or gray) are systems you can travel to in one jump from where you are. The dotted lines are systems you can travel to after the first (solid line) jump. So yes, you can see all the jumps you can make from anywhere on the galaxy map. No need to "select" a system to see what jumps can be made from it specifically.

If the commodity you're selling isn't available on the market window then it's probably illegal so you need to sell it on the black market (Contacts, Black Market). Not all systems have a black market but if you find a system that wants something that is illegal there, like Tobacco, and does have the black market then you can make a real killing.

It looks like they have reenabled the dynamic market?
I'm not sure... but I noticed that Eranin currently has no fish demand.

Interesting! I'm going to trade around and see if the market's different elsewhere.
