A few days in and everything in the Codex is reported already?

Everything has been reported in every sector by the looks of it already so what’s the point? So much for a great season of exploring and finding new stuff: I know where it is as the bloody Codex says so.

Yeah I know I haven’t confirmed it for myself but every single thing is Reported already with a location and a name: nothing is rumoured.

So, that’s it then? Am I missing something or is all this build up over the past few months re exploration done and finished now with basically just the old standard discoveries to make first discoveries on?

I would say, it's all discovered for now. Frontier has been introducing new stuff into the game for a while, and I would expect that the Codex will be where new rumours are going to be seeded going forward. We’ll probably get a better measure on how fast something can go from rumoured to reported then.

It is disappointing that all the new phenomona for 3.3 was grabbed so soon, but it was to be expected; all this stuff was in the beta and there are more than a few CMDRs who want To Be First to find something. But, you still get a reward for confirming something, and there is no law that states you must visit the system where the phenomenon was first discovered.

1) Frontier said that not everything would start as "rumoured", and that appears to have been extremely true - in fact, there have been no rumours at all. There are likely plenty of entries still to be discovered, especially out on the galactic fringes where fewer people have looked. (For a trivial example, at time of writing no-one has reported any Ammonia Worlds in the Outer Scutum-Centaurus Arm region, but I'm pretty certain it has some)

2) For a lot of things, getting the initial reported entry in the Codex is just the beginning - behavioural traits, habitats, etc. all get added to by subsequent discoveries and by more thoughtful approaches than "point the comp scanner at it, call it a day".

Ah this clears it up a bit, if it’s is correct: according to http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Codex

The Codex also has ‘Rumoured’, ‘Reported’ and ‘Discovered’ states.


Rumoured - If an item is listed as rumoured that means there is a possibility of finding it within that region.


The Codex has been filled with ‘rumoured’ discoveries in each region to give you an initial breadcrumb trail to follow.


Reported - When a Commander finds the rumoured item in question, it then shows up as ‘reported’ in the Codex, and update everyone’s Codex . If you then find it, and scan it, that will then become ‘Discovered’ in your codex.


If you’re hoping to be an intrepid explorer and find things that haven't been discovered, you can - and set off that cycle of Rumoured, Reported, Discovered!


The 42 regions are huge, and there is a lot to be uncovered, the initial ‘rumoured’ items are just the very beginning in getting you exploring out in to the black.

- Ah so even if everything in the Codex is ‘discovered’ there are plenty of other things out there that aren’t rumoured or discovered yet and are yet to find. That makes me feel better!
