Things I would liek to see in Elite.
1: More ships
I'd like to see oldies such as the Krait, Mamba, Moray, Tiger, Lion and Panther. Also...more types of ship. Racers, recon/spy, hospital, mining and fabrication, generation ships, satellite, salvage ships, satellites, small fighters, shuttles and so on. Not all need to be player ships....I think it important that there be more visual variety in ships and stations and outposts.
2: Multiple crews
I believe this is coming, and I'm not sure how you'd ensure people weren't bored half the time but I think, if done right it'll be fun. Tied in with the above, there is also the potential for dogfighting action via carriers - although the use of remote piloted drone fighters might be more "realistic"
However - much though I want it, I don't see it being viable **all** the time. Multiple crew means specialisation which means nothing to do a lot of the time. I can see it working for dedicated missions....a big ship leads an assault, with people manning turrets, piloting fighters and assault ships and being in charge of defence, shields and damage control...but not as a standard game action.
Might be nice to have some NPC crew available to fill in the extra seats on th ships we already have. Not sure what they could bring to justify their crew cost though
3: Boarding action
Boarding a ship is a stereotypical action for pirates and there is no equivalent to for Boarding actions. It'd require a lot of work, to give each ship a distinctive interior and style and implement the boarding mechanics but again, done right it could be a lot of fun. I do seem to recall some mention that we were going to be allowed to wander around our ships at some point; if so, boarding actiosn would eb a great way to turn a cosmetic feature into a gameplay option
4: Salvage
Personal opinion here - I really dislike salvage being illegal. I think this also affects the viability of players acting as pirates. Much preferred the system in older Elites where salvaged canisters were yours and it was the contents that were potentially illegal.
5: Improvements to piracy and smuggling
Others have mentioned it....I think both these activities could use some love. Shielded compartments may be one solution, but you'd need a system where they oppose the scan and sometimes fail.
6: Backup HUD
A backup HUD as part of the pilots helmet for use when the canopy blows. Not as accurate or "stable" as the main HUD but I still think there should be something.
7: Races
Bring back the Mamba. Set up race tracks in various systems, and bring in specialist racer craft. You'd need limits on the upgrades to ensure skill was very much the decider but still a fun excursion. Maybe even allow gambling on the results (Yes, yes...legal issues)
And maybe surface races with SRVs
8: Outposts
How about long term mining outposts which you can staff, upgrade, defend and which are set up to exploit a resources - furs, food, metals or whatever. And your own stations....become your own faction. Create your own nation.
9: Better mission design
Some good things coming, but I'd like greater mission variety
10: Better love for the Alliance.
The Imperials and Federation both get their own ships. Isn't it time the Alliance also got some? Maybe the Alliance could get some of the more crazy or unusual designs. They haven't been around as long and are up against two established powers...so they're willing to be more experimental and innovative.
11: Ferry capability
If I have a ship in system X, can I hire someone to ferry it over to me in System Y?
12: Salvage
As in the ability to "mine" wreckage. Or even to tow ships. Perhaps the ability to have "Salvage Bots" akin to collectors limpets to tear a wreck apart or a prospector like system to ID salavageable gear and equipment. Maybe even use soem of it yourself.
13: Landing
Landing could be more forgiving. If the ship can enter into autopilot to level off and straighten up when I am 5 degrees of centre, it can do it when I am 90 degrees off centre. Further, is there any need for the elevator to turn you around when you are at an outpost?
14: Outfitting
Am I alone in thinking the current UI system is very clunky?
I'd also like to see the Black Market actually sell some goods and equipment.
15: Compass always points to the target, whatever it is. As does the onscreen "arrow"
16: Scanners that work automatically - because having to "fire" them is just irritating
17: Pre Written comms signals that you can send to your target. NPCs can have a reaction to them.
