A Few Newbie Questions on The Rift

(Oculus Rift, that is!)

I have tried to search, read pages and pages of threads but couldn't find what I'm looking for. So, Here goes:

Question 1: When sitting at my desk (in my cockpit), it all seems a bit small.

I am positioned way above and behind the pilot's seat, and can see the back of the headrest. The HUD is also far below where it should be.

Absolutely no clue how to modify this.

Question 2: Making adjustments to improve the visuals:

I have seen the key things to try (HMD & SS), but where should I look to make the changes? In Elite's settings? Oculus' settings? Or maybe Nvidia? Or Dr Kaii's tool?

Comfort-wise, I was wearing contact lenses and think I was straining due to it not being well set up. Had a bit of a frontal headache after a while.

Other than that...

I loaded up and found myself in the SRV at an inactive Alien thing-site. Just amazing, the SRV itself was big, and driving it was great fun! No motion sickness, but I didn't drive around for more than a few minutes. Recalled the AspX and got on board.

I mean, absolutely amazing. You. Are. There. Spent a good while just slowly observing the landscape around me. And my ship's bridge. and the sky... Pleiades, Barnard's Loop, Horsehead, all so large and bright in the sky.

Leaving the planet was the first time I really felt how big the planet is, and got a bit of vertigo. Crashed into a dim brown dwarf... landed at Obsidian Orbital and marvelled at the scale of things.

I was not comfortable being in the weird place in the cockpit so I exited to try and find a solution.

Then I downloaded Robo Recall, and man. That also blew my mind! And I nearly smashed into my monitor while playing. (Tiny room :-( I may have top reposition everything.)

All I can say is it's a completely new experience and I'll be Eliting in VR, especially if I can get the les sorted.

Cheers!

Just got my Oculus a couple days ago as well and I had the same issue as you when I logged in because I was standing when I setup the Oculus and sitting when I started Elite so my position was all mess up. Didn't no about the F12 that Jim said but I couldn't see my keyboard anyway. You can reset the view with the Oculus remote as well. Just hit the button that takes you to the main settings and I think it's called reset position. It's on the right side on the menu list. Just make sure you are sitting in the position you are going to be playing from. It's pretty awesome once you get it set.

The SS and HMD setting are in the Elite options panel. There is also a profile tool you could use as well.

I think F12 is the default key for the VR positional reset, but I re-bound that key yo one on the base of my joystick. I probably re-set the view once or twice per game (2-3 hrs play). If i remember rightly, in the ED options its under controls, and then miscellaneous. Its called something like HMD reset or HMD position reset. I cant quite recall.

And if you're using Voice Attack, don't forget to set up a command for that too, rather than wasting a HOTAS button (although I can usually reach for the F12 key w/o a problem).

I remember my first VR experience was in a Sidey in a training mission. My head was sticking out of the cockpit. It was actually pretty cool watching the guns deploy and flying around, but worthless for doing anything else. ;)
