Newcomer / Intro A few Newbie questions

Hi Chaps & Chapesses

I have been playing for around 10 - 15 hours now roughly and really loving every bit. My wife thinks I have left her ! I set myself some goals and a role as a trader and I 'am well on the way to achieving the first of my targets. I have just upgraded to a Hauler and have my sights set on a type 9 one day. I have a few questions.

1) Should I stay at the hauler and fully mod it to get the cash dollars for the type 9 by just grinding my Hauler or should I progress upwards through the other mid sized ships first ?

2) Can upgraded modules give me a faster FSD charge rate & faster & tougher shields & re-charge rate, as I prefer a burn and buggout policy to interdiction as opposed to fighting for now. I already have an upgraded hull.

3) Is there any way I can transfer back to my trusty old sidewinder without having to fly back too the port I left it at ?

4) Are R.L. purchased skins re applied after destruction/orrible dearth by the insurance in the game or do I need to re buy them ?

5) Whilst approaching a target/station etc in FSD I noticed a tendency for the ship to accelerate uncontrollably past it if I dont get off the gas early enough. I then have to perform a massive handbrake turn. Is this the effect of the mass of the station (or nearby bodies) boosting the warp effect ? How much effect (if any) does the mass of celestial bodies have modelled in the game ?

6) Are Capital class ship (like in the advertising trailer) NPC only or can I one day aspire too tool around in one to (god help you all :D ) ?

7) @Frontier can we have furry dice and cup holders for our ships. I keep spilling coffee on my navi com whilst being interdicted.

8) Heinz or HP beans ?

Many thanks for answers in advance

1) I'm not a trader but let me quote you: "One Day". You won't reach that day staying in a Hauler.

2) Power Distributor is usually the first module to upgrade for faster recharge rates of everything. However, it does not affect the FSD.
You might want to drop the Hull upgrade as it makes your ship heavier = less maneuverable. Usually, not taking hull damage in the first place should be the priority

3) Nope.

4) You basically unlock skins by purchasing them. So, they're kept and can be used on multiple ships (of the same type of course)

5) tba ;) edit: no ninjas, so more text and in a nutshell:
• map a key to 75% throttle
• when ETA to your destination is 7 seconds, press that key
• you should nicely coast within dropout range without the need to touch the throttle again.
• some caveats to the above:
you can speed up the finalfinal approach but I don't have handy numbers for this; experiment. / a planet's gravity can screw this up /
I have a suspicion that it might be faster to loop around in a Fibonacci maneuver, spiraling in.

7) Furry dice would be nice. In Zero-G! Yep, there's no gravity in the cockpits (there goes your cup-holder;))

8) Myself, I can't decide whether Heinz' Hot Pizza and Steak Sauce is horrible or awesome. Opinions, please.

1) that's up to you. One of the nice things of the game is that you alone decide what to do and how to do it.
2) here http://www.edshipyard.com/ is a tool where you can see the results of every upgrade you plan to make.
3) no
4) yes they survive destruction
5) to avoid overshooting you can us the 007 rule. Below the indicated distance there is a counter that says how long it takes at your current speed. If you keep that counter at 0,07 you will not overshoot often.
6) no AFAIK
7) there used to be a bobblehead Bobblehead.JPGin beta but that didn't make release.
8) I don't like beans

1. Hell NO! If trading is your game, T6, Clipper and maybe some of the MultiRole ships in between. Just because they are not traders, doesnt mean they cant trade better than a dedicated one.
2. The Hull upgrade will slow you down. Better shields, power dist, shield boosters and thrusters will help you bug out.
..
5. Yes, No and Black Box. Go to 75% thrust when the timer gets between 6 and 10 seconds. Running in a gravity well will still sometimes mess this up. Pointing away from your destination for a while can be slow you down enough that you can still make the braking zone without having to whizz past and 180. 6 seconds on the timer is the magic number. Any more, you can go faster, any less, you are going too fast.
6. NPC only. A Conda is really really REALLY big
..
8. If I told you, I would have to kill you
