A few observations - from a new player

First of all.
The game is pretty much, where it should have been at the launch.
So I've finally started playing and actually enjoying it.

A few things though.

1. Entering a starport.

Going through the opening, you can actually get stuck, on a completely smooth surface.

Just having bought the Anaconda, I was having a pretty hard time getting it through the opening. For some reason, it seemed to WANT to get stuck on the top of the opening. It's probably me, somehow moving it up. But, why does it have to get stuck on a smooth surface?
Even putting it in reverse, it's pretty much impossible to get out/unstuck.

It cost me three (yes 3) anacondas so far. I finally installed an automatic docking unit, but we all know they are not flawless.

2. Supercruise.
Even though I've chosen not to have super cruise assist on, it still slows me down, far before the end of a taget.
In an instance, I had some 7000 Ls to travel. At about 4000Ls it went to 20 Ls, even with full throttle and I even tried slowing it to 75%, to see if it would gain speed.
I had to aim it down somewhat to make it gain speed.

Why?

2, 2. Supercruise (again)
Going "full throttle" from the blue line (75%, thrust) really does not do much. It makes the noise, but you only get four or five more units.

I get this game is about the grind. But come on. Do a little better.
It's breaking the immersion and the otherwise feeling of freedom and unlimited space, this game tries and for the most part succeed in, installing in the player.

EDIT: There sure is a lot of maintenance on the servers. A bit annoying.

Are you sure you got stuck at the top? The Anaconda has the cockpit up top with the bulk of the ship under it. You need to go through the slot close to the upper edge or you'll get stuck on the bottom. It's different from a T-9 that has its cockpit lower down with the rest of the ship sticking out above.

Supercruise is weird but it is normal that your ship slows down when approaching heavy things. Target selection affects travel speed, too, for some odd reason I never understood. I still dream that supercruise gets an overhaul sometime :)

Huh? You might just have got (un)lucky with the new update.
Usually, only a few minutes every thursday morning and hours on the occasional update day every few months. Other space-themed games with daily resets are available ;)

As other said - Gravity Wells :)

It is very probable that your landing gear got stuck in the toast rack. The Anaconda and Corvette need to approach the mail slot much higher than you'd expect.

If you get stuck in the mailslot, try deploying the landing gear: usually that gets you unstuck.
This is always the first thing to do if you get stuck anywhere; apparently this resets the hitbox and frees you from everything you might be stuck on. Personally, I regularly get my Kraits stuck on lamp posts.

This is explained in the opening flight tutorial. Your FSD slows down under the influence of gravitational bodies. If you fly from a star to a planet far out, you accelerate to some form of maximum speed, and then you start to decelerate because you get closer and closer to the gravitational influence of your target. This is also why flying in a straight line is a bad idea because you can get caught in gravity wells of passing planets. It is also why gravitiy assisted braking works.

Again, this depends on the gravitiational influences around you.

I assume you listened to some silly "best start", "make money fast", "skip engineering" or other grind guide. Don't. PLay the game, find activities you like, and do that instead of focusing on "efficiency". Otherwise you will spoil the game for yourself in no time. There is no pot of gold at the end, because the game has no end.

EDIT: There sure is a lot of maintenance on the servers. A bit annoying.
Tuesday was update deployment, and thursday morning is the regular maintenance. Other than that, there is no "lot of maintenance".

If deploying landing gear doesn't unstuck you, you can always relog and it will place you a few km from the station.

No offence, but.... how can CMDRs nowadays get an Anaconda and still be at the level of getting stuck in the airlock...

Its quite common for new players to be critical of the game, often based off misunderstandings of how features work. Frontier should try to address this, either by improving the tutorials, sign posting them more or by perhaps making a couple of mandatory ones that explain key concepts like gravity wells, high wake vs low wake and the link between
power consumption and heat production

Many new players get stuck in a star for example then try to high wake out, only to be promped to align to the destination as they cook - i've even read posts where people have self destructed because they didnt know how to escape (supercruise charge up to see escape vector, supercruise cancel to cool down, now supercruise up and away while already pointing at the escape vector). I know mandatory tutorials can be unpopular but i think the complexity of Elite does warrant it as these common misunderstanding of mechanics can lead to quite frustrating gameplay experiences

I admit I rarely read manuals until after I've used something for a while, just to pick up any other info. So I can't blame people who don't or don't watch youtube tutorials.

But this is a space ship flying game, so basic control of the ship should be the first thing you learn. Do it in a sidewinder or cobra, not in a whale of a ship like an Anaconda.
