A few questions about finding players among the stars, docking, etc

1 - When landing on stations etc, how do we know what direction to face? I am good at landing...just dont always start off facing the right direction. I don't see any universal indicator for what direction to face. I'm sure it is right in front of me and I'm missing it.

2 - When dropping off cargo, once in the station how do I "deliver" the cargo. I'm sitting here and don't know how to complete the mission.

3 - Where are all the players (I play on open mode so that I can engage in pvp etc)? Let's say I wanted to interact with others....are there certain systems where many can be found?

Thanks guys! Loving the game so far.

You want to be facing the number over the pad. There's a 'ramp' looking thing that you want to be behind you, as well.

Also, you can tell because in the docing hologram you want to be looking at the back of your ship.

Go into the Bulletin Board, find your mission on the right (it should be the first one on the list) and hit 'deliver'.

The story center systems are the most likely to have other people in them (look at Galnet and see where things are happening.)

face away from the blast shields to land

the same place the mission was issued, the bulletin board

go to any of the stations that sell rare commodities such as Lave station in the Lave system, you will find lots of traders at those systems as its the quickest way to make money.

yeah i saw a video that told me 'face the control towers' which are the buildings at the right facing end of the landing pad. the blast ramp is the wrong way, although i have managed to land backwards once, it didn't do that rotate sequence and just let me undock strait away.

I sometimes see players around, depends where you are, the hub systems tend to have players in them, its intermittent, although i see a huge amount of ships failing at stations, i know some of them are npcs but not all of those explosions are npcs surely.

What do you mean by the hub systems?

Can i just open fire on any player I see since I play in an open server. ?

Also, what will happen when I die from a player? What's the penalty?

BBelieve it or not I Google almost all of these and nothing really comes up. Thanks for your help!

a hub system is a system that has multiple stations or just plenty of items that ppl want, like a trade hub, or a shipyard hub or a outfitting hub, you can see these by playing with the view setting on the galaxy map. there are various places that could fit the hub category i just use the word to describe systems that offer more than usual.

if you shoot a player that isn't 'Wanted' you will get a bounty on you.
if you die in the sidewinder it doesn't cost you anything to respawn, other ships are about 10%, so a ship that costs 5m will cost you 250k to respawn.

thanks Heathy. And, um, don't kill me for asking but...what happens if I have a bounty on me? I actually have a small one on me right now...I don't know why...perhaps for logging off and my mission expired with the cargo still in my hull. Can I make ammends or pay bounty?

You can risk landing at a station, but if you are scanned by security forces the security forces will go hostile. Best course of action, find an outpost with the same faction alliance, and land there. Outposts have no security forces and you can pay off your bounty there before going back to relatively unhampered spacefaring.
