A few questions about my time with Odyssey so far

  • Of all the items that you can gather on foot, is there a list out there somewhere that can tell me which items I can safely sell without worrying about whether or not I need it for an upgrade?
  • Does anyone know why there are multiple entries for the same items in the inventory? What I mean is that in my own inventory, Manufactured Instructions and Power Regulators show two entries of the same type but with different quantities.
  • Has anyone noticed that on certain planets with atmospheres, that the atmosphere will disappear when you approach the planet, then reappear when you get out of orbital cruise near the surface? I ask because I'm not sure if it's some Nvidia control panel setting that's causing it or if its a bug with the game.
  • I don't know how to submit a ticket for bugs that I do encounter. Can anyone point me to the part of the game/site that I go to do that?

a third option are mission items, but these are easy to spot as they have a little "mission" next to them. they won´t change their status even when the mission is gone.

the last time i tried upgrades it seemed i could not mix legal and illegal items.
so lets say i need 5 energy regulators, i´d need either 5 legal or 5 illegal ones.
but that might have changed, or might change in the future.

not sure about the mission items, but i think you can only sell them - they will clutter your inventory BADLY if you don´t get rid of them, as they don´t stack:

no idea abut the atmo question, i didn´t notice it - but that doesn´t mean it´s not there

Jixxed created a mod named ED Odyssey Materials Helper. Not only does it show you if you have irrelevant with stock (vendor trash) it shows you how much Assets/Goods/Data you have. Also what you need for mods and upgrades as well as Engineers unlocks and what locations types (lockers etc) to get them via mouse over. For Odyssey, if you don't use this 3rd party mod you're working against yourself.

That's interesting; if I'm reading that right, are you saying that some upgrades require illegal items?

Odyssey Engineering Cheat Sheet might be able to help you here.

I think (but might be wrong) it's for different ways in which goods can be acquired - so mission rewards will fill one row up, good acquired independently another slot.

no, sorry, i meant its either or.
i couldn´t upgrade with 4 legal and 1 illegal item, but i could upgrade with either 5 legal or 5 illegal items.
maybe better consider this outdated, as the poster above (cmdr c******y) said it works for him/her

to be honest, sometimes it´s hard to know if it is by design or just bugging out

Okay, I understand.

Legal or Illegal, I can confirm that you can mix-and-match for upgrading and putting the fancy new tech on. You can trade the assets about, too, regardless of status, but not sell unless you're at an Anarchy-controlled station.

Mission items count, as well. I still have like 20-some power regulators from back before reactivation missions were (essentially) removed.

Have you tried switching between Combat and Analysis views? I don't think the atmosphere shows while in Analysis view, until you drop out of the approach glide.

My experience wasn't the same, I believe. I have two categories that both say Manufactured Instructions. One has three, the other has over 30. When I try to upgrade, it only shows 3. I did double-check after reading through all the replies here to see if it's something mission-related, but it's not.

Yes, I have tried that, but the atmosphere should show between both. It does on some other planets with atmosphere. For some reason, certain atmo planets do this thing where I go into orbital cruise, and the entire atmospheric effect disappears until I get to the surface. Like, the planet looks like it doesn't have an atmosphere until it just pops into existence. Very weird.

In Anarchy stations you can buy E-breaches, and the bartenders will buy illegal stuff from you, whereas in other government-type stations they won't. Maybe the same happens with the upgrade vendors. So, find an Anarchy system and retry to make sure.

edit: syntax

Oh, good idea! I didn't think of that.

For me this depends entirely upon whether I've mapped the planet. If I have mapped it then the atmo is hidden while in Analysis mode, and visible in Combat mode. And this is 100% reproducible. It's dumb and shouldn't be that way, but that's Elite Dangerous for you.
