A few questions from a new AspX owner looking to explore

Thank you all for the replies, great information! My Asp is almost kitted out, I'm hoping within the week to have finished gathering credits for the last few purchases and then I'm off to see the black. Exciting!

As you're kitting out your ship, take enjoyment into consideration. What will make it more fun? If you are going out into the black it can get pretty boring at times. My first few trips I wanted to focus on range. I got my Asp to that 50 ly point and thought I'd love it. Honestly I didn't. It was very boring to fly around planets. I upgraded my thrusters and power distributor so my speed was around 340ish with boosts well into the mid 400's. This made canyon runs a lot more fun and I thoroughly enjoyed flying around large mountains, craters, canyons...etc. Even with the upgraded components my jump range is around 46 ly's. That is still REALLY good range. Exploration and long distance traveling speed aren't the same thing. So make sure your ship is still fun to fly. The AspX is going to get range, don't get caught up in numbers at the expense of the joy of flying.

Just to add to the already fantastic advice in this thread: It's very worth it to fit a class A power plant, for heat dissipation. Fit the smallest class A you can - I'm currently running with a 3A, and I've done a trip to Beagle Point and back with a 2A with only minor inconvenience from having to manage power.

Here's my current AspX loadout, for reference.

Good advice, thanks. I'm hoping to run with two SRV's (carrying a spare just in case) and am shooting for a jump range around 35-40. I don't mind leaving weapons off but I'd like to still have shields. Once or twice I've come in a bit fast for a landing and it's nice to have the shields take the hit first.

Landings and resources

1. It really doesn't matter too much. Unless you're at a popular site, like the alien ruins, where there is risk of destruction, or your PC is really weak, dismissing your ship makes almost no difference.

2. You will be able to travel for a bit without dying, but do stuck up on SRV refuel materials anyways.

3. No but there is nothing negative about having them.

4. Yes you can.

6. Depends a lot on the ship type. For an ASP i would take two. But in an anaconda, four is often a good choiche for longer expeditions.

Repairs, refueling, resting

1. For most expeditions, one will suffice. For very long expeditions fit two so they can repair each other.

2. They'll fix all modules except the canopy and themselves, so bring two on very long expeditions.

3. A few. The obvious ones at colonia, but also some scattered around at places like the barnards loop and eagle nebula.

4. It really makes the whole process much much faster, and if you're going to travel any significant instance, getting the best fuel scoop you can is a really reccomended thing to do.

5. Don't park near a neutron star/white dwarf. Ensure silent running is off. Ensure you won't be accidentally colliding with anything.

6. Doesn't make much of a difference really.

Miscellaneous

1. It's a bug. Don't know if it still works.

2. Yes.

3. You have to pay insurance for your asp, or choose the free sidewinder.

4. I'm unsure.

5. You cannot jump around between stored ships no.

That's what I do. 6A fuel scoop (overkill) and a 4G hanger. I've never blown up an SRV but I know it's technically possible so why not. I know explorers do run w/o shields but I'd never dream of it. I use 3D with a grade 3 reinforced. That seems to be enough for bump protection. I've had some rough landings and they've never caused hull damage.
