Ships A Few Questions, To Ask About The Orca!

Hay Guys, so after buying the Beta Assaces £6,99, I have to say I'm loving it, I was able to buy all the ships, that I always wanted to try!, so big thumbs up to the Devs, of allowing the beta to be brought!well worth the cash!. [up][up][up][up][up]

Now with being able to try out both the Python/FDL & Orca, I have to say, I;ve got a few things to say about them, however on this topic for today, I'll be asking qeastions about the Orca. So lets begin!, Oh do note, the qeastions apply to the LIVE, btw, not the BETA.

Question 1: Where Can I Find The Cheapest Orca?
I am looking to buying the Orca, but I want to kown if I can get it much cheeper, then say the: Python/FDL

Question 2: What Do YOU Use The Orca For/What & Why!?
So the reason, I ask this, is due to alot of people or barely any people have the Orca, as it is pretty much useless right now, of a ship, but I want others to prove others wrong!

Question 3: What Can The Orca Do/Can Not Do & What Is It Really Good For?

This qeastion goes on pair, with Question 2, of what people find it useful for, or what is the common usage for this ship?, over others.

My Own Thoughts Of This Ship!: So as of so far, I am too unsure of what the ship is really good for, I most certainly love the luxurious styling of the ship, and our pure white and posh it is, no doute about it, no that. The sound and the feel of the ship feels great as well. The only side burn I hate about the ship, is how bubbly it looks and how fat it is. Tho I'm sure in due time I'll get used to it, it was my first time, hancing the beta.

My Personal Usage Ideal:

My Idea of the usage for this ship is a Scientific & Research Ship/Institute Ship

Weapons: The Weapons will be high-tech based weapons, Mostly Energy weapons only, Beam Lasers Or The New Energy Weapons (Shield Healing One/Thermal One)

Shields: The Shields will be mostly experiential type of shields, useing ones like the Bi-Weave or Prismatic Shields.

Armor: The ship will mostly have "OK" Armor, its more high-tech based, then anything else, so Armor Like Mirrored Surface types, to help protect the shield

Power: High Power, to make sure Shields & Energy Weapons, are at their best, but at a affordable cost perhaps, Or Not.

Unity Mounts: Heat Sinks, to keep it cool, Maybe a Chaff Or Point Defense (What Ever is better). Mostly Chaffs & Heat Sinks, due to so cheep. PERHAPS a Frame Shift Scanner or Shield boost, but Chaff & Heat Sinks, seem more for protection. (Reason for Frame Shift Scan: Fits Thame of Research stuff)

Internal Unitys: Here is where it will mostly shine: Discovery Scanners, Plant Landing Stuff, Limpic Drones & One/Two Main Big Cargo Racks. Self-Repair System. & Maybe a Mining Lazer, but that costs a weapon slot.

So, peoples there is the ideal thing, the ship whuold be used for in my eyes

Thanks

Legion

I can answer your first question. Orca is available on a 20% discount at Alioth, though the system requires a permit.

Otherwise just find a LYR system selling it. It'll be 15% off there.

Currently Orca doesn;t have a purpose...obviously, there are no passengers to transport.
It's really good at ramming when loaded with armor, and it's quick. I'm afraid in everything else it's not a competitor to other ships. Especially for the kind of money Orca is really bad value for the money, sadly. It's a nice looking vessel.

I was bounty hunting in beta with an Orca earlier today: two gimballed beams and a PA. Lots of fun. Meh range, but I think she would work well as a fast cargo runner as well.

Ok
1) Main game you want Alioth for 20% or Li Yong-Rui systems for 15%, see my signature for the active discounts thread. (I assume you know beta has the 90% At Lhs 3447 and Founders world)
2&3) It's currently multirole but makes a good trader/miner. It has blistering speed, can be made into an exceptionally good ramming ship. It may also be useful post 2.1 for combat as it can chase fleeing NPC's.
It's real role will come when passenger transport gets introduced.

Makes an average Explorer too actually and though I've not tested it probably a decent pirate ship...

So yeah very multi-role atm :)

The Orca is pretty much what you want to make of it. It can do pretty much any role competently, if you have the cash to outfit it and the skill to fly it.

I initially had mine outfitted to do mining, but I have done more general trading kinds of things with it lately, running contracts. I like its speed, and it can be surprisingly agile in spite of its low maneuverability rating. I have had a much easier time docking it than the Imperial Clipper, in part because it is not so darn wide in back and also because its maneuvering thrusters seem to perform better (particularly vertical thrusters).

If it had a better jump range, I would consider using it as an explorer from time to time. I can only imagine that, if you were going out for long expeditions across the galaxy, it would be amazing to basically bring a mansion with you. Heck, bring some friends and make a party of it.

1) As mentioned, Alioth, Li Yong-Rui, or Jameson Memorial

2) I use it for cavorting about the galaxy and showing off to new players at the starting stations in Open. I'll do some trade CG's with its 100 tons of cargo space, and have modules to do just about whatever I feel like at the time. It's fast enough to play in Open without worrying about bad guys. Admittedly, I switch to the Asp for real exploring, the FAS for real combat, the Anaconda for real trading, the iEagle for real racing, but I keep going back to the Orca to just fly around and visit places.

3) It is very very fast, so can be a smuggler, but can not land at outposts. On top of its speed, it handles surprisingly well for its size (when A-rated, and you get used to yaw instead of pitch!). It can be filled with Hull Reinforcements and ram through almost anything, especially if you do a rails/plasma barrage right before impact. Its one Large and two Medium hardpoints have a very tight grouping. If one hits, they should all hit. It has enough modules to make a decent miner, and has one of the best viewing canopies for exploring. (Though its jump range means you can not be in a hurry when exploring, and pack an extra fuel tank.) And it looks good doing all of those things. Finally, no other ship has the "Fasten Seat Belts" ping right before boost. *ding*FWOOOOOSH!

I found it a very good ship for doing the planet salvage/rescue missions, as it handles really well near the planet, and yet still has great speed for moving around. And for a large ship it has quite a small footprint for landing on planets making it easier to find spots out in the rough.
