What you are seeing and reading from some people on the forums youtube whatever whereever is not really how the game will be played in reality.
Its not really a game of biggest ship wins. It is in the beta, cos thats all there really is to do atm. People are playing it as if it was a small map, quick match FPS deathmatch. Which isnt how the real game is going to play out.
There will be no 24/7 war server going on to farm kills until you get bored and quick jump back to base till you feel like warming up you lasers again.
I'll be very surprised if thats the direction they are going in with this game anyway. None of the others have ben like that. There could be a lot of sad faces when that realisation kicks in I think.
Murder and law breaking in this game has a simulated consequence.
Once we are let loose in the universe, you will find many different ships big and small going about their daily business, exploring, mining, bounty hunting, trading, if a bigger ship comes along and you dont like the look of it, you stay out of its way.
Combat is just a tiny % of what elite is about. You are just living the life of a spaceship pilot. Earning a living, which ever way you decide, flying about in a universe filled with many other people doing the same thing. Obeying laws, disobeying laws if thats what you choose, Most people will probably be friendly, some wont obviously, but its not just a game of killing everyone you meet. Sure there is survival, sure theres danger. The human element adds a bit of unpredictability, the NPCs are probably more likely to attack as they have less fear for their life and ship.
I have been killed once by a human I was awy from keyboard at the time, and killed 0, nearly killed a few but they all ran away. I have tried to stay out of trouble most of the time.
Its an open world game, in the true sense of the word.
