A few small changes that could go a long way (slight spoilers)

Xbox player here! First and foremost, I want to say that this is my second Frontier title (ED being the first) and I really like the game. I think it's well built, looks great, and has a lot to offer.

That being said, it has some pacing and maintenance issues that, left unchecked, I feel could turn a lot of people away. One of my friends has already shelved it because of this. A few quality of life improvements could fix these issues, so I'll go into them.

One would be a pause option for the game-time function. It allows people to get a breather without having to log out of the game. Sometimes you need to assess what's going on to build a gameplan for dealing with it. The storms on the second island can damage many structures all at once and taking inventory of the damage while paused would be helpful, especially when you're dealing with raptors!

Second would be the ability to assign crews to automatically do jobs. I shouldn't have to hold the hands of Rangers and ACU units, but I should have to manage their areas of coverage. When a death or illness crisis occurs, you literally can't do anything other than constantly assign Rangers or ACU, and if you don't, illness is sure to spread.

Third, the ability to speed up time. I sat for two hours in my park today until I had enough money to move forward. I was told to sell unneeded buildings to make more cash, only to find that once I did, I needed them to complete the missions. I get that things shouldn't come instantly, but this was a bit over the top. Maybe just like double or triple time would be nice.

If those few changes were made, I know I'd be a lot happier. I know my friend would keep playing, and I think it would be a great set of changes to improve JWE.

Let me be clear, I don't think this is a broken game or that it was rushed, nothing like that. I just think some things aren't really fully realized until it's in the hands of those who put many hours into it. I still love it, and I hope changes like these are considered down the road.

Thanks for an experience that is more fun than not fun, even if this post is only focusing on the not so fun side.

Cheers!

I wouldn't like a mission map pause. I like the franticness of the turd hitting the fan.

When you've got a disease outbreak, a storm damaging buildings, the raptors are loose, a dracorex getting rowdy, guests panicking.... It's exciting.

I can understand that. What's frustrating for some is fun for others. I suppose they could still implement a pause function and those who like the fun could refrain from using it?

Either way, the pause function probably falls lowest on that list for me.

And my god, are the Dracorexes ever happy?!

Mine always seem happy. I have 5 100% together in their own enclosure off to the side. Still on the first island.

On this, I'd agree.

I'm in two minds about this, in one respect, it can become tedious when jumping over to one end of a park to assign a ranger or ACU to deal with an outbreak, but on another, isn't this part of the management system? If we could have them automatically deal with outbreaks and deaths (etc) this, I think, takes away from our purpose a little.

Gotta' disagree on this - completely. If a speed up/slow down time feature was ever added, they might as well do away with all timers. Just be patient. Sure, you may need to actually sit around and wait for a while, but just take in the views and observe your Dino's. I really don't get why everyone and their neighbour wants to rush through the game!

The first one is a paradise in comparison what you have to deal with later. Move up to the subsequent islands and see if you still like them as much.

I understand where you're coming from, but time speeding up is a big part of other builder games, and they help out folks who aren't blessed with a ton of time for gaming. Again, all this stuff would be completely optional. Just a thought.

I can appreciate that, but at the same time, why does everyone seem like they want to reach the end so quickly? What exactly is the benefit of doing that? I know we're all more than entitled to our opinions here, but I'd rather take my time with games like this and enjoy them. I can honestly say I've never fast-forwarded any builder game I've played, and I've played quite a few. My logic is, if you/we reach the end too soon, we'll become bored and move on to something else. I'd rather stick with this for a while. [smile]

That's fair. I just find the time waiting to be a bit extreme at times, like I said, literally two hours earlier today. Some like instant gratification, and I assure you that's not where I'm coming from. And honestly fast forwarding in some of those games leads to problems for the overzealous. Faster progress also means faster problems. That's why I thought it should only be 2 or 3x. Anymore would make it too easy.

I agree completely about rushing the end game. I don't want to rush it either, but I cenetsinly don't want to poke my way there either.
