CQC A Few Suggestions for Revitalizing CQC

I am not the kind of person to ever post on forums, so I know my profile here may be deceiving. But I have been playing E:D for almost three years now, so I think I have a fair amount of insight into the game.
I don't have any numbers to support this, but it seems to me that most players have little to no interest in Arena in it's current form.

I am far from the first person to suggest that it be integrated into the main game, but I think that is just the first step. CQC should be portrayed as a real competitive sport in the world of E:D, which I think is really keeping with the idea of "immersion." Arena was built on the idea of having a relatively quick and easy way to put some time into E:D; so Players should be able to log in from on their ship in the way they do Multicrew and participate in Arena battles. I know I am also not the first person to suggest that, but I think that CQC could be a lot more.

Players should be able to log in and watch CQC battles like they are watching a sportsball game. Imagine there are cameras placed around the arena and/or even a free-cam like we just got with 2.3. That would be epic to watch, and would make some pretty amazing footage for drawing new players (which CQC had also intended to do, I believe). On top of that I think the really exciting way to get people invested would be to have a gambling platform for betting credits on matches. Not everyone is good at/wants to participate in CQC; but most people would love to watch good matches if they could have some to classify watching matches as "productive" for their character (potentially making money from betting). Then all kinds of E:D players can get excited about it, and it will draw more competitive CMDRs to CQC.

And here are a few more random thoughts that I've had on the subject:
I think it would be awesome to have some CQC maps on planet surfaces. Flying with varying gravity and landscapes would be really fun.
I love racing on planet surfaces in SLFs and SRVs, could races somehow be integrated into Arena? I think that might be even more popular with E:D's very large non-PvP crowd. Also maybe even races with live weapons? Now that would be some fun s**t.
CQC could even potentially be a real-world eSport if it's re-implemented in the right ways.

What do y'all think?

Just played some CQC last night. It's my favorite goto VR mode. Death match is t too bad to get in. The team games take a while.

There been a lot of complaining about Engineering effect on the main game when fighting other CMDRs.

Arena basically takes care of that. But it certainly it need more. They need to take the things that appeal to PvPers in main game and apply it to new CQC modes.

Ok first off, a server browser for finding games and friends.

A mode with extended border maps where you can bring your own main game ship to fight. Have eng and non-eng versions of this. And also small, med, large ship only modes.

Have modes for high risk/reward. Loose you ship, it costs insurance value to respawn. Maybe a large cost to get in like 1million but in, but a winner take all. Essentially a wager mode.

Modes tied to power play so you earn merits.

Planet races and combat for sure.

There's a lot that can be done to make Arena the goto PvP place.

I agree with everything you said except the part about betting credits, It's a good idea but I think people will then cheat and find exploit to earn fast easy credits...

Simply giving the option to enter queue from the main game would make one hell of a difference. Most people stopped playing cqc because they don't know how much time they're gonna need to wait before a game. But if you can wait while playing the game, that's not a problem anymore.

A very small change that would make a very big difference!

I wish Frontier would state out loud in public what they will be doing with CQC.

It's a shame. The few times I was able to get a game were actually the most enjoyable times I have ever had with Elite. If CQC were integrated into the main game, offered rewards, and allowed us to use our own ships as in Star Trek Online PVP, that would make it much more popular. Why won't they listen??

I think it's simply too low priority, and the changes you propose would be a significant amount of work. Basically, they figure that the development effort would be better spent on e.g. making awesome aliens, because more players care about that stuff in the first place.

I'm with you, and would love to see some improvements to CQC, but I think we're in a very small minority. :)

Using "our own ships" would ruin it for me though. One thing I love about CQC is that the ships are basically stock, and outfitting has relatively little impact on the outcome.

mariokart but above a moon in an eagle

that would get me to play

technically still close quarters combat if you could shoot down your rivals

Tbh CQC was not my type of thing at first.
but then i got a vr set and damn the game become 100% better.
The only way many will enjoy this game type is with a vr set imo.

Also we still need bots as it's damn hard to find a game at times.

Arena/cqc on xbox is invariably empty, have played deathmatch about 3 times.
Its broke, its dead, its unsupported even though forums have some good suggestions.
It is fun to play and you need cqc for ranks, so I think some play in groups just to rank up.
Well what happens next, up to FD, at least some kind of lobby or integration into the main game, maybe entrance to cqc at a particular station with viewing possibilities.

I love cqc. I'm not a pvper, but i don't shy away from combat. One cmdr in a FB was elite in cqc and gets 30% off the FDL and discounts on weapons.

You don't need elite for that, only need to reach level 50 and prestige. Then you get the permit for CD-43 11917. There you get the discounts. Also the outfitting has all modules.

It is a shame it is not accessible from the main game. If FD implemented a number of arenas around the bubble, and advertised special fight-nights etc over GalNet it may just re-vitalise it's use. I would love to be able to see a "Lave Arena" hanging in space in the system, so I could dock at it, and choose to play CQC for in-game benefits. The arenas could also have mission contacts, who would offer CQC-related missions.... something like "win this small tournament, and we'll reward you", etc.

The arenas could then be used by player groups to organise their own CQC tournaments at their local arena... it's just a shame that CQC is so far removed from the ED main game.
