A Few Things I'd Like To See In Elite's Future

I'd like to see new varieties of space stations, and planetary bases. In particular, I'd love to have the ability to dock on a battleship or colony transport. Along those lines, I'd love to see a couple of planetary bases using domes. I would LOVE to see people moving about in stations, especially when I'm landing. Seeing passengers gather by the pad as I choose my missions would be awesome. I know, for some people it's silly because it might serve no practical purpose, but in all honesty when has Elite: Dangerous always stood by the practical?

While I understand space legs and atmospheric landings may be a ways off (I want them both very much), I don't see why we can't have a few new places to dock and interact in order to add more life to the E: D universe. Are these things FDev plans on creating? I would hope they haven't decided that the stations we have are more than enough to last the rest of the game. I don't know the full history of the game, so if they've actually done things like that already, feel free to fill me in.

So what do you think?

Well, we have domes...

True, but we don't land inside of them. I'd love to land in a city sized base, with a giant dome over top of it, getting clearance to land on the pad, and the top of the dome opens long enough to let me land inside.

I feel it would be easier to just make an opening in the dome similar to mailslots. I can already see all the problems related to the dome having to open and close for each ship.

Edit: But I do agree that the stations are strangely lifeless. In my opinion the npc models would only have to look good from your ship. So not at all. Plus they'd just follow a set animation pattern, it would do wonders for scale too.

I'd rather have more content than things to look at. Space legs would need more content to make them a viable addition.

What are you going to do now with legs... other than walk around and "look" at things "with legs"? BORING!! There's no interaction mechanics in place for that sort of thing. I can see the posts now, "Fdev gave us legs and nothing to do with them." (I would be one of those people! hahaha)

Honestly, how much time would you spend in the station looking at the people walking around when you could be doing the same thing they are, undocking and heading out for an adventure?

Same goes for atmo landings, needs more content, or you're just going to wind up doing nothing but walking and looking; or flying around finding the same ol' POI's, bases and material nodes.

The community needs to keep doing what it has been doing, providing new ideas for content then maybe space legs and better more immersive scenery.

Good point, mail slots might be better. Also, yeah, having a dynamic population would do those things, which is why I hope they're looking into it.

I see this reasoning all of the time, but it doesn't hold, to be honest. If content was important, we'd have something more substantial than a galaxy of lifeless planets. Yeah, I can go anywhere in the galaxy, hooray! Also, there's nothing out there. Nothing. After a while, all of the planets start looking exactly the same. The stars? The same. Why have that many planets if after visiting .000001% there's nothing to actually see and do that's different? Yet exploration is considered one of the core aspects of the game. So it doesn't matter how much time I spend looking around a busy station, or checking out a planet with atmosphere, because I'm already in a huge universe doing nothing but flying around. At least make it more interesting, more dynamic, more alive. That is worth the effort.

Sorry but that makes no sense being that the purpose of a dome would be to contain an atmosphere... :D

WOOOSH!

But I agree with the general sentiment of your OP.

Dear gods, not this again. I have the exact same opinion on those stupid waves of enemies in bounty hunting / pirate POI's** that pop up - all they do is generate ships to shoot at, for eternity* - pointless (IMO)! Whereas walking around, I never got bored of in X Rebirth... so, y'know, different strokes for different folks. I don't begrudge other players who want to play fight the ever generating waves of ships, so please let me be boring and walk about, cheers.

o7.

* I wouldn't mind finite battles, where they have a reason for being there and it will be resolved with or without players input after a set time.
** Gamification vs World Building Structure & Logic - I know which I prefer.

EDIT2: On topic - Orrery (bit obvious really but I'll continue asking until the heat death of the universe).
