A few thoughts of few years of playing.

I've been playing "Elite Dangerous" for a while now, I started on console, and when I had the opportunity, I moved to PC, I bought the game for the second time, because it's outstanding and deserves it. But there are a few things that prevent me from going back to ED and diving into it for good. A while ago, a new ship appeared, something we've been waiting for a long time, I downloaded ED, the goal - Shinrart Dezhra, I bought a beautiful Python MK2 and what next...? To make reasonable use of the ship, you have to upgrade it accordingly, so I planned a route to visit every necessary engineer if possible. It took about 3-4 hours, great because I had a supply of materials, I only lacked 2 things to get my stats to 5*, but ok. It's good enough (although a slight bad taste remained). I'm off to hunt some pirates, I'll check how the ship performs in combat, and I also tried out the new FSD function for the first time - GREAT THING, I've been dreaming about it for a few years, and I finally got it. Satisfied, I changed my ship to the good old Alliance Chieftain to hunt some bugs. It went well, but a few things need to be improved. And again I have to look for the nearest new power plant and a few other things to adjust the ship to the requirements of the situation and again I spend my precious time trying out a new ship configuration, and I think to myself... after all, this game has such cool "community goals". Beautiful sceneries of thargoid titans, sound, graphics, story lines. I think to myself, I'll put on headphones, turn up the volume and have a great time. Before I went to the titan I used YouTube knowledge. And it turns out that I have no reason to fly there with my ships, the thermal efficiency of my ship is hopeless, it won't work. I have to make a new ship, specifically for this task. Fantastic... again half a day of flying, and in the middle it turns out that I will run out of some material, of course I will be able to exchange it, but I have to look for a trader... and again I have an uphill battle. And you know what? Excited after a few months of break I turn the game off after 2 days of playing. Why? Because I don't feel like flying for half a day for something again. There is still the matter of the Odyssey expansion, where I have to jump and fly around engineers again to unlock better equipment and you know what? I don't want to do it even more. It hurts me that a game with such great potential has a huge muzzle imposed on its gameplay in the form of grinds, tedious tasks and many other difficulties that require the player to devote only their VALUABLE time. Look at your statistics. When something long-awaited appears, you gain players, but the charm disappears when it turns out how much effort it takes to get to the new content. Dear developers, you have created a fantastic game, it is really a great piece of work and I thank you for that. Graphics, SOUND!!! music, scenery, community goals, politics, ED community is a masterpiece that few people manage to create. But the game has been crippled by unnecessary difficulties for some time now and it gives joy only for a moment.

Of course I respect every different opinion of every member of our community, it's just that after a few years of playing, a few months of break (during which I excitedly browsed the app to see what was currently happening in ED) I gathered some deeper thoughts that I wanted to share.

I also have a few conclusions that I would like to discuss with others. A few suggestions that would perhaps attract new players, or allow old ones (who have been scrolling through the app for a few months) to return with a smile on their faces.

1. Fuel scoop should be a standard in all ships.

2. The amount of stored materials should not be limited

3. Less painful grinds (I don't know anyone who has fond memories of gathering materials for Dav's Hope or grinding for F. Corvette or Cutter.

4. Crafting materials and upgraded ship parts could be traded on fleet carriers for credits.

5. FSD range and fuel consumption - interstellar travel is beautifully done but let's not kid ourselves, this is a loading screen, travel to distant parts of the galaxy could be faster.

6. It's 2024, so if I can buy a washing machine on "Amazon etc" and they'll bring it to my house from the other side of the world, why do we have 3310 in ED and I can only bring my ship from the other side of the galaxy, and I can't order a ready-made modified component from an engineer or a ready-made ship at the station equipped as I want, with as many modified parts as I want and wait for the courier to bring it to me. And pay for all of this with credits (which are getting useless at some point in the game) Let's spare ourselves this boring chase for improved components once again to the same places. IT'S 3310 YEAR!

Thank you.

Please not another post where somebody wants everything right now for no effort, sorry but every game has what you call grind, every game has progression and upgrades.
At least ED isn't easy like other games.
Fdev have done much to make things easier but lets not dumb it down to much, some of us actually like a challenge.

you got your py2, engineered it and it left bad taste? you set yourself a goal, completed it and feel bad? idk if we can be of any help there...
I turn the game off after 2 days of playing. Why? Because I don't feel like flying for half a day for something again.
you have booted up the game, aimed for three different things that all require preparation, resources and time and tried to do them all at once. im not surprised it felt bleaky. we have been preparing for titan combat for half a year...
1. Fuel scoop should be a standard in all ships.
cant have everything
2. The amount of stored materials should not be limited
idk if unlimited would fly here, but players have been talking about mat storage for a bit now
3. Less painful grinds (I don't know anyone who has fond memories of gathering materials for Dav's Hope or grinding for F. Corvette or Cutter.
with the last update theres no need to grind. unless you want to make it that way. in that case blaze your own trail...
(i have a pretty good fleet of corvettes that i made before engineering2 by just playing the game. grinding or not is 100% players decision)
4. Crafting materials and upgraded ship parts could be traded on fleet carriers for credits.
ikr? but see 6
5. FSD range and fuel consumption - interstellar travel is beautifully done but let's not kid ourselves, this is a loading screen, travel to distant parts of the galaxy could be faster.
ludicrous speed drive? carriers? fleet carriers owners club can take you for free to distant parts... you got to leave some gameplay in the game, cant just teleport around yknow.

you are expected to play the game. you do the thing, you get the reward. why you cant buy engineered for credits you have answered yourself. they are meaningless. the upgrade you get isnt. balancing...

we have an amazing economy sim and commondities market serves this purpose. mat gathering has been dumbfounded enough, no need to push it further

ps
you said you donwloaded the game, implying you havent really been playing, and the content of the post more or less confirms it, right? and you said you want to leave the game after 2 days.
with all due respect why should we pander to a tourist that comes here for a weekend, leaves sad post on a forum and then leaves?

No it is fine as it is, it is a useful lesson to the new player that this is not an arcade game and you have some decisions and compromises to make.
2. The amount of stored materials should not be limited
Again it isn’t an arcade game plus if storage was unlimited some players would only be storing materials.
3. Less painful grinds (I don't know anyone who has fond memories of gathering materials for Dav's Hope or grinding for F. Corvette or Cutter.
I didn’t dislike any of the things I did to get either of those ships apart from having to do missions to gain the rank for them. Dav’s used to be more fun before it moved as the terrain was more interesting.
4. Crafting materials and upgraded ship parts could be traded on fleet carriers for credits.
Boring.
5. FSD range and fuel consumption - interstellar travel is beautifully done but let's not kid ourselves, this is a loading screen, travel to distant parts of the galaxy could be faster.
Of course it could but why diminish one of the beauties of the game the sense of scale.
6. Because if you could do all that you would have much less to do in the game.
7. Commodities market, tez jest bezużyteczny pełny towarów, których przewożenie jest mało potrzebne i mało opłacalne. What did you expect? Frontier have been laying this carpet for years now, people are just walking the walk they provided. 🤪

2. The amount of stored materials should not be limited

That's always fun in games, unlimited storage, but guaranteed someone will not trust it and will try and push that unlimited storage until it breaks. And now imagine the very next CG that requires mats if we have unlimited storage and;

3. Less painful grinds (I don't know anyone who has fond memories of gathering materials for Dav's Hope or grinding for F. Corvette or Cutter.

I mean it's ludicrously easy to fill manufactured storage now they have fluffed up HGE's, so lets fluff up the rest and next time a mat CG pops up it will be finished the same day, you'll be lucky to get there in time to make any contribution!

I have enjoyed material grind to some extent (in Odyssey too) since it required me to get necessary knowledge which I could put into practice, test it and then to optimize it to my liking.
The learning process itself is satisfying experience for me. Now I have all I need on my main account, most of the things I want on 2nd account... but I have practically nothing to spend my in-game credits for unless I get interesting idea or I'm in the mood to check out how different load-out for a certain ship hull will perform.
I'm also planning to unlock some engineers (ships) in colonia region in future for my 2nd account bur right now I'm too busy with harvest in RL to play more.
One of the reasons I do not think grind here is not serious or hard may be related to my RL work- being a farmer in RL makes farming in game easier I think:)

Anyway my expectations from the game progress are a bit different from normal player since I do not like killing- I like to do things stealthy, without the need of committing massacre of NPC pilots or ground troops. I enjoy covert gameplay the most... sadly ED does not offer active stealth system at all.
New ships are ok. Python MK2 is combat vessel so I do not need it. I might get type-8 eventually but there is no rush. I'm more interested in different type of game features ED doesn't have (yet)- maybe someday in future who knows.
