Hardware & Technical A fix found for a broken x55 yaw spring.

CMDRs,

My x55 yaw spring broke last night, and after hearing Kerrash having said he fixed his with some hair bobbles!, I reached for the screwdriver and opened my 2 year old flight stick up.

After I managed to open the section below the yaw potentiometer, which involved two push in clips. The broken spring fell out, having had a spur snapped off from one of the ends, and at the same time I noticed it was actually larger than it needed to be for the space it was occupying.

With two pairs of pliers, an electricians screwdriver, a roll of lx tape, one of those blow torch cigarette lighters you get and a cup of coffee (for dousing), I managed to re form the spur that had snapped off using the excess length of the spring and then tensioned it so the two spurs lined up again. After applying heat for about 30 seconds the new smaller spring maintained its new shape.

The new spring has more resistance which suits me better, it took 20 mins. though I think a picture will tell a thousand words so if anyone has the same problem please PM me on the forum.

I think its awful the manufacturer wont release spare parts, a 10p spring, for a 160 pound item, and would be most happy to share.

All the best.
