For the past few days I've been roaming around trying to learn the game, and with the help of some of you I was able to sit around a nav beacon and finally find some wanted targets. Killed a few NPC's and made about 5k in bounties, then went for a 3rd target, but his buddies ganged up on me. Apparently there were more than 1 wanted ship at the beacon so I unfortately became their lunch. Lost the 5k in bounties. Ah well.
I got back into the stock sidewinder and headed back to the beacon, that's when I got interdicted by a NPC in an eagle. At this point I said "screw it" and dropped to 0 and began to engage. It was a pretty even fight, trading shots at one another. I must admit my aim was horrible and I was having trouble targeting him and keeping the joystick steady on him.
The eagle eventually got me below 35%, my hull is falling apart, oxygen levels decreasing. Oxygen leaking out of a broken windshield. Man it was exciting! Here I am barely keeping my ship in one piece trying to take this thing down, and I can barely make out the ship through the cracked screen. I got the upper hand on him as I learned to speed up as he turned around, so he could only get a few shots in before passing me by. I stuck on him and managed to take him out. He got a lucky shot that killed my oxygen tank (I think?), so this timer came up and said I had 5 minutes to get to a station or I was going to suffocate. Never have I felt like "ut oh", now my hearts pounding hoping to get back to the station in time considering he had a 5k bounty on him. Luckily I was able to dock without trouble and get back to the station leaving pieces of my ship in my wake, now 5k richer.
I started thinking about the fight on how cool it was and even though it wasn't a player, it was still exciting. I started to wonder why I couldn't hit him very well or keep the joystick from skipping as it typically does when I start to move it. I did some searching...Then found a thread here regarding joysticks. Realized my joystick controls were set to digital, not analog. It's smooth as butter now. Sonofa
