A funny thing happened on the way to Felicity Farseer's.

Yo CMDRs. Yesterday I finally got myself a Krait Phantom, and immediately set to engineering it as per CMDR Voorheez's excellent directions.

I had entered the Deciat system and was in orbital cruise above Felicity Farseer's base, everything was fine. I began my descent to the surface, I was in the groove. The Farseer Inc side of the planet was in darkness, so switched on the new night vision, cool. I noticed the base was busy, a number of hollow squares already there.

About 500 km from touchdown, I suddenly got a strange and unexpected 'Cargo Hatch malfunction' message. The following message said my cargo (8 limpets) was being jettisoned. Weird, but I decided to ignore it, I couldn't see any ships nearby, I thought it must be some unexpected bug with a new ship type, getting used to this patchwork engineering build.

Then the computer tells me something like 'hazardous substance detected'. I'm just like... whaaaat?

Within moments, modules are failing. Messages tell me 'power plant malfunction - unable to operate at full power'.
'Docking Computer inoperable.'
'Power Distributor malfunction - module is offline'.

I might have got some of the wording of the error messages wrong but that was the gist of it. I'd just never seen anything like it before, I couldn't figure out what the problem was.

Next thing I know, my lovely new ship is out of control and heading for a close encounter with the surface. 'Eject!' Then the rebuy screen, what a drag.

I really wish I had made a video of this, I've decided to start recording things more often.

But anyway I've been wondering if anyone else has experienced anything like this. I am quite mystified by it. Was I just the unlucky finder of a horrible bug, or was I ganked by some brilliant silent-running star lord?

After the rebuy, and I'm heading back to Farseer Inc only about 5 to 10 minutes later, an unknown CMDR sends me a 'Hello friend!' message, probably just a coincidence, but it made me wonder.

Doesnt explain the Hazardous substance detected message though does it..unless we can now fire Thargymabob stuff at Cmdr's.

How bizarre

If you were hit by a cmdr, and then hitting the surface resulting in a rebuy, it should show that cmdr had killed you.

It does if the Cmdr managed to cook Zoltah. It's the heat generation that give the hazardous substance warnings.

Since you were killed by impact with the surface, rather than by direct fire, the commander name won't show up in who killed you. However, your log entries would show what happened to cause the incident and who fired at you.

If it was another commander that attacked you, the only thing I can think of that would give a 'hazardous substance' warning is the Enzyme missile.

OP, this sounds exactly like what would happen if you had some Thargoid corrosive cargo in your hold. Are you sure you were not carrying any suspicious cargo?

Also, overheating often causes the cargo hatch failure, followed by other modules.

If attacked by a CMDR, their ship would show up on your scanner (at least briefly) even if they were silent running.

I had 8 limpets in the cargo bay, nothing else. I hear you though, when it started, I wondered if somehow it was a bug (and the game thought I had such corrosive cargo on board), or even if a devious-minded but highly capable CMDR had found some way to insert such cargo into another ship, (sounds silly I know, but you know... just 'cos you're paranoid doesn't mean the universe ain't out to getcha!)

I wasn't overheating for sure. Like I said everything seemed sweet as I got ready for the glide down to Farseer Inc.

It's certainly possible that I may have missed another ship in the vicinity if it was silent running.

The whole thing was quite weird. It's just the kind of story I myself take with a pinch of salt when I see them on the forum! lol

hey Light, I play ED on a PS4! I'm assuming that PC people can check logs easily, but I have no idea if that's even possible on a console.

Perhaps the “hazardous substance” was something in your RemLok suit? Did you have an accident?

Enzyme missile seems likely, especially if you were in Open. Still plenty of bitter spoil sports that like to lurk at Engineer bases.

LOL, I ain't that old! Yeah, trying my luck in Open again, gotten pretty good at avoiding or disappointing the bitter ones. This one must have been very sly.
