a goid hunting I will go...

seems like there's not a lot of people hunting thargoids....or at least not talking about it. I put a ship together but still working out the details on what works and what doesn't. I tried to start a conversation on one of the "other" forums but nobody's biting. Guess all the weapons nerfing and the constant thargoid tweaking has a lot of people spooked.

Anyway, I'm working on a Gunship-based build (the mods are generic "best" rolls, not my actual rolls). 4 med hardpoints are 2 missiles and 2 MC's. the large hardpoint is a flak cannon.

I haven't tested this particular configuration yet (I tried it last night with a 5B SCB and 1 less MRP last night) but I'm not sure if a second MRP will help.

I spent an hour in Maia yesterday and managed to take out 1 heart after 5 engagements, but I was losing modules quite a bit. I was also a bit clumsy with the SLF since this is the first time I've actually used one - they're not particularly interesting to me so I've been avoiding them until now when it looks like I've been forced to use them. The other thing that got me for a while is putting the MC's and missiles in the same fire group - with everything else going on I was wasting too many missiles on the wrong reticule and separating them so I only have one aim point at a time really helped.

So anyone else braving the goids after all the monkeying with the mechanics?

Engaged and killed one last night in an Orca, with another commander. Given that that Orca is not rigged as a combat ship, but as a Search and Rescue ship (It's even named Rescue Zero), I was surprised by its survivability, and I'm a huge fan of the Orca.

I did have a more suitable ship sent to the area though, so I'm looking forward to giving a real trial by fire tonight.

bah! a bunch of shoe gazers the lot of you... except Indigo.

I went out and killed one. Found a couple of brave CMDRs and took one out. All goid noobs except me but elite combat pilots. Hell of a fight. the way they side-step missiles - brilliant!

If anyone cares 2 MRPs made a huge difference. I was able to stay in the fight till I ran out of ammo.

The 2 million and some crafting mats isn't worth thr trouble in my book. I killed a few, saw the new Shiny stuff and logged off until 3.0 drops in a year or two.

if you're doing it for the money you missed the point of the thargoids. no.... its not even close to enough pay. and I don't care. I'll go grind 200 million on some stupid passenger missions for a couple of hours and blow it all fighting bugs.

Got a few of these under my belt now. It's a beast of a fight, but it was meant to be. They're entirely unpleasant, even after they're dead. I have an FdL rigged for fighting these, and after one hard-worn victory, I wound up making a mad dash for The Oracle, and setting down on the pad at exactly 0% hull. I used the 2m reward to replace my fight suit, underclothes and have the cockpit fumigated.

It was great! But to be honest, the best part of fighting and beating these things is neither the reward, nor the bits of stuff they drop - nor is it even the satisfaction of victory... in fact, I liken fighting and beating one of these to free-climbing Mt. Everest while copulating - you're exhausted, near dead, and glad it's done. I never know if I should smoke a cigarette or take a nap after a fight.

The best part of besting one of these is seeing how much is involved in one of these fights - seeing them come apart piece by piece the way they do... it's great tech in action, and it looks good too.

yeah! I haven't been able to take one out solo yet (since The Great Nerfening) but they're a blast to fight. seems like its the first thing in the game (at least in a long time) that can't be beaten by grind or large sums of credits. And you actually lose money doing it. but its still great fun.

Unfortunately when I went back in the evening there was nobody there willing to make another attempt. I went back in by myself just to practice fighting one.

well it was a rough start but by the end of the weekend I was killing goids in wings of 3 or 4 all evening long. At this point its still not about the money or even the materials it drops. Its just good fun and challenging. Im sure once meta alloy hulls drop maybe it'll be a bit more doable solo but you take a caustic missile and you probably won't be able to stay long enough to finish the job by yourself right now. Still its the best NPC fight in the game right now and totally doable.... it just takes skill and like I said its the first thing I've come across that you cant grind or buy your way out of (yes you still need money to do it but you can't substitute a pile of money for actually doing it) ... so it's surprising to me that so many people are complaining about it.
