A graphic engineer found the cause of low FPS: rendering/culling

This beggars belief.. I honestly don't understand how something like this could be overlooked, - my only assumption is that this was pushed out the door to fulfil a financial obligation. I've never known a company to go from Alpha, straight to Production, in the space of a fortnight..

I'm not 'rendering guy' and certainly not for video games, but I have extracted 3d meshes from the game since 2016 and this is not surprising.
I haven't extracted anything from Odyssey yet, but by the sounds of what those guys posted, Odyssey sounds like it made it worse.

Even in Horizons, extracting models while sitting inside the hangar will result irrelevant meshes being pulled — like the entire station entrance "grills".

The video is from the Alpha, they said they turned on culling in the Release, but I guess they forgot to flip the switch 🤣

I don't think it's a 'flip the switch' kind of matter, lmao
I mean, why would the switch be there in the first place? What's the point of the engine being able to render scenes without culling and with totally wrong draw calls?
"Oh look how crappy it is if we are doing it the wrong way! Who would have thought?" :ROFLMAO:

Especially of FDev, a notably exceptional technical developer.
Most gamers in America (except Elite fanatics like myself) have never even heard of Frontier. Well, until now that Odyssey went from the top of Steam's promotional page to a mostly-negative rated game in just a couple of days.

Though I suppose "exceptional" doesn't always mean "good", so maybe you're right!

Dr. Kay Ross said something like this in the video that reassured many (me included) before launch.
It's propably not a switch, but something something occlusion culling turned off mumble no optimization in Alpha*

* I'm no software guy.

Rendering the entire carrier while you are sitting in the hangar surrounded by 4 walls, a floor and a ceiling... hmmm yes, absolutely makes sense, as long as... idk, the central heating is not working in your office so you're forced to use your CPU and GPU to prevent frostbite and hypothermia.

Why do you argue with me? I agree on all that. :LOL:

The Alpha already was in this state, and I chose to believe them when they said it will be good in the release.
Seems like they were wrong, and I was naive.
