I'm flying along and I see "strong signal source" so go to check it out. Drop from LS and find canisters of gold. I'm not outfitted with a cargo bay at this time (I've been BH and had no need) just about to carry on and five pirates surround me. My poor little eagle suddenly becomes a spread eagle as the insides of my ship meet the vacuum of space. Lesson learned :)

Same thing has happened to me only it was a Sidewinder that was splattered across the void of space. I always avoid these now.

The strong signal sources is where all the fun happens, at one point I saw 3 pirate Anacondas guarding a stolen AI Relics canister. I killed them all and gave the canister to a random newbie I was winging with.

SSS, it's ED's right of passage for all new (and not so new in some cases) Players. We've all been there.

Drop out of SC, oh look gold! I wil have some that. Followed by 'Noooo.....how can this be happening..etc etc.

I guess I have been lucky enough to avoid the pirate honey trap as every SSS I've checked out so far was one of two things, it was either a wedding party or a funeral procession. I stopped checking the SSS after the fifth one of this type as it didn't seem worth the effort.

You need to keep trying Joe, you're not a real pilot until you've been bounced by a couple of big 'uns with your hand in the honeypot.

My tactics to fool the guard ships of this treasures are to jump from SC and keep high speed and make a pass to scan the canisters, dodging the guard vessels. If the canisters are gold ones, i jump to SC again, take some distance and come back, but this time instead of droping on the signal i try to drop at a safer distance, lets say between 30 to 60 km away, the i approach the signal and when close enough i went Silent Running. Then i start the move towards the canisters in an angle that place me in the opposite side of the guards, (if your are lucky enough, in the previous run the sentries got away from the canisters when you meet them and follow you trying to shoot you), and get close to one canister. Try to figure out the exact place of the other canisters, so you can scoop two or three in a row. When close, (about 20mts), of the first canister, deploy cargo scoop, suck one or two canister and drop from Silent and get the hell out of there!
If you are brave enough, lure the guards away from the canisters as far as possible and restart the procedure again.

when 1.3 goes live, worth sacrificing cargo scooping drones? Have to test.

I did something similar recently. I thought it would be smart to go after this bounty for some guy named "The Imp." I found the guy and he was flying an Anaconda with some other buddies in tow. I didn't last 30 seconds.
