Newcomer / Intro A hostile welcome to the game.

So being new to the game and checking out using the FSD and how to get about I figured I would start some trading in order to start making some money and work my way up to a few upgrades. I'd made a profitable first trip but on the second trip, although I was given permission to dock (at Poriti), the scanner wasn't changing to the land assist mode. Undercarriage was down and I ended up moving all around the pad trying to get it to land.

Much to my annoyance I was then fined 400Cr for blocking the pad. I checked the number... yes it was the right one. I moved away, cancelled the docking request and tried again. To further my annoyance, I then repeatedly got "Docking request denied". I tried for about 15 mins but then decided to go somewhere else.

Can anybody tell me what I did wrong?

On my jump I was seemingly pulled out of FSD and found myself under attack by a lone assassin who wiped my shields out in just a few blasts. Then I found my ship to be literally blown apart around me and I was left with no choice but to start again - although this time in debt and owing a loan payment.

Whoever it was than took me out I would like to congratulate on his skill. However, I was hoping to at least get a footing on the steep learning curve before being handed my ass on a plate.

So please - all you people that have been playing this game for some time, go easy on the new "harmless" guys. Otherwise you'll turn people off the game very quickly.

Cheers.

Bonkin.

Landing - maybe you faced wrong direction. Have you played tutorials ?
Got killed - since you are new player , the one that killed you needs no skills - Have you played tutorials ?
Footing on the steep learning curve ...Have you played tutorials ?

I think here are no bugs , you just need to learn more about the game ...Have you played tutorials ?

the chance it was another cmdr that killed is quite slim too. did you see his name and was a "cmdr" in front of it?

You said you were on the right pad ?, if so there must have been a bug, since you also got a fine of 400cr for "blocking the pad" this shouldn't have happened unless you were on the wrong pad, and it also explains why you didn't get the final landing radar image on the hud when trying to land, and why your ship was all over the place when you try to set it down on the pad..

there is a known bug with the landing pad holograms that makes them disappear and sometime reappear later, is it possible that you saw the hologram pad nr. then fly towards it, then it disappeared before you got over there but you think you remembered where the pad was but unfortunately you misjudge the distance to the pad and the pad before "Yours" allso were lit and you by mistake tried to land on that pad instead of your own ??

Reguarding your Request denied you must fly away from the "no fireing zone" of the station and wait about 30 sec. before requesting landing again then there should be no problem getting permission, by the way remember to pay off the fine or you'll end up with a bullseye on you back witch someone might take advantage off by killing you... ;)

Been there and wearing the official tee-shirt 24/7 - I agree with other posts - read & view instructional stuff- it is valid. Best of luck - were you in open game or solo?

Watching other people play this on sites like Twitch has saved me a fortune in fines. worth checking out some live play or vids.

Ok. Thanks all for taking the time to reply. So a couple of things I've picked up - 1) I may have suffered a bug and 2) go through the tutorials. Got it.

Incidentally, the game desperately needs external views. So much eye candy that I'm sure the community could help sales by their creativity in movie making.

If you are playing a trader I would suggest you stick to solo mode until you have some serious money. It is what I did and I am now flying a pimped out Lakon 9 worth over 100 million and have 40 million in the bank.

Traders in open play are like seals to a shark in the busy systems and that hassle will seriously impact on your profits because time is money :D

most likely wrong way on the pad.. but it does glitch out from time to time

You can be the wrong way around and it'll still change the nav screen to the landing screen, which will help you work out how it wants you to orient. I've seen occasional references to this glitch but I seem to get it a lot more than anyone else, it's pretty common for me to hover just above a pad, do a complete 360 to be sure, then fly back out, cancel, request again, come back in exactly the same way and land perfectly.

It's a particularly frustrating bug when you have a bounty on your head and trying to work around federation security as it is.

303

As with most of these MMO's. Those in early turn gangsta and start blasting away at all the noobs. Rules, what rules? Courtesy.... LOLOLOL...get serious!

Alternatively to playing solo you can join our PVE group which is now around 4000 people. You can meet other cmdrs in game but they don't shoot at you except in specific combat zones. Other good thing is that having a large number of pilots and our own forum and TS server it is easy to organize group actions.
