a legal question

So I have a question.
Some game companies frown on multiple people sharing the same account, to the point they have rules set in where they will ban people if they find their account has been used by more than 1 person.

Now I wanted to let my boyfriend (who lives in canada and I live in south africa) play on my account a little to see if he likes elite before he actually buys it.

But now I am unsure if this would be allowed...

Just do it, even if it's not allowed. They most likely don't care anyway and if you want to be 100% that they don't ban you just wait 1 day before logging in again. Just make sure he buys the game if he likes it instead of sharing one account ;)

PS
If you use steam you can just use Steam Family Sharing and give him access to your whole library:

Just do it. I've been out of the game for a few months due to work, have let a few people use my account to try before they buy and test out VR, all of them now own their own accounts.

It might be technically against the rules, I think you'd be okay. I think it's more that they reserve the right to penalise people for sharing accounts, not that they necessarily would in a case like this, where you're just letting someone have a go at the game. In any case, I don't see how they could possibly find out.

You bought that version too!?

Technically against the EULA but I'd defy you to find me a company that would ban people for trying to help them sell another copy of the game...

Actually now I think about it I allowed other people to play on my account during Lavecon when I hosted an event for the Fuel Rats... A Frontier Dev actually joined in too... XD
Also the FDev official livestreams show Ed sharing his many accounts with the guests...

Ah lets not go down that rabbit warren and lets assume it's a good faith agreement where if it feels legit and reasonable when said out loud it's probably ok.

If you want to 100% cover yourself fire a support ticket out and get an e-mail in writing back. iirc there is a demo about somewhere that gives a bunch of training missions but way back from the 1.X era so it's not exactly up to date anymore...

If they ask, you just visited your BF and used his PC/Console to play a bit of ED while you were there.

No harm in that, is there? :x

It's not against rules to have game installed on several machines, but you'll only be able to play on one at a time.
This is the control that FD has to to prevent multiple use of same account.
So basically if your friend uses your account, you will not be able to until they stop playing.
If you wish to both play at same time, you'll have to have two accounts.

Quintuple factor authentication is a pain, isn't it?? I lol'd thanks for that. :)

I think those EULA agreements are there to protect from people who lend accounts for real money, actually preventing from selling another copy. I wouldn't fret too much about it, and Stealthie has already provide you with an alibi ;-)
