What's the big deal, if you see a thread on a subject discussed by yourself in the past, don't click on it if you aren't interested in participating. If it is a duplicate of a current thread then report it and move on.

Part of the problem is quite often these topics start taking over other threads, particularly these topics can be obtusely related to the OP but not directly involved, so not strictly a new thread or off topic.
