LOL... About 6-7 years ago, I requested a simple feature: a toggle switch in the game settings that would allow the ship's clock to display local time instead of universal time. This would have been a very useful addition for VR players who had to remove their VR helmets to check the real time when VR was relevant to this game. Unfortunately, it never happened because Frontier Developments (FDev) never paid attention to the player base. In fact, at that time, I received a lot of ridicule in the forums from the "elitists" who insisted on "immersion" in the game.
Between us, what breaks immersion more: a digital clock on the display or the need to completely remove the VR helmet just to look around you?
Well, to those elitists, where is your beloved game now? It's astonishing to see the game struggling with less than 2000 players at its peak. Even a low-rated private WoW server has more players during peak hours than this game, and it can't even justify its existence! This "achievement" can be attributed mostly to Frontier Developments losing sight and common sense. It's also partly due to the close-minded attitude prevailing in this forum.
I abandoned this game in 2020, despite achieving triple Elite status and spending 2500 hours in it. I had a few solo Cyclops kills, made the trip from bubble - Colonia - Centre and back to the Bubble all in a full 16-hour marathon, twice! So yeah, I had my moments with this game, can't deny it! But I finally grew tired of the relentless grind and the never-ending bugs. At some point, I even began to suspect that someone was actively sabotaging the game's development because for every bug they fixed, they introduced at least 2-3 other unthinkable bugs.
I loved the game's sounds, graphics, and flight model, but I equally despised the pointless and artificially inflated grind, as well as the overall shallowness of the game. The fun part for me was bounty hunting, and the challenging part was combat zones. However, the rest of the game, including the repeated "frame shift drive charging" announcements (I know it can be turned off, but... immersion), was simply boring.
Frontier Developments should acknowledge their defeat and bury the "Dangerous" franchise because Odyssey drove the final nail into its coffin, which was already painted. Of course, my comment will likely be "moderated" because Frontier Developments can't handle negative feedback – just another reason for the game's current state.
L.E.: Don't get me completely wrong, IF the game take the right path - bringing back VR, develop/listen to community suggestions: more ships, more extra, etc etc, get rid of the useless Thargoid War (maybe switch to Unreal Engine?) - I'll be the first to comeback and take couple spins in my dusty ships. But for now it's simply not worth it. Also - and I cannot stress this enough - I won't install legs even if Odyssey is a free DLC. Elite is and always will be a space ship fighting game, not a poorly executed shooter no one wants to play.
