A little advice; FDL Kit...

...and suspicious NPC ship behavior. More on that later.

About the FDL. First I LOVE this ship. It does everything I want it to well enough, looks and sounds totally badass doing it, and doesn't feel like a gorram General built it. (I'm looking at you Vulture & FAS.)
"Military may set the hardware standard, but on a first-gen frigate they could care less if the seats breathe. Civilian sector comfort by design."

The flight model feels great, the hardpoints aren't too badly placed provided fixed weapons are on the inboard locations, I can see my forward dorsal thrusters fire (imursin!), and it's interior fits perfectly with my blue HUD. Ok ok, so most of the reasons I love this ship are fluff. I do enjoy it's flight/performance though, enough to put up with that "FSD" with the suspiciously misspelled labeling. Now.. two things about this ship are actual concerns to me;

Power output with the Engineers mods.. will it be enough??

Those shields though....
"Now she's got this thing I don't want to talk about. It's like ship cancer."

Anyway, here is my build as it is right now. I'm afraid it's the best I can manage financially at the moment, but I upgrade every chance I get.

Now, any advice on something I might be doing wrong? I know I need better shields and I can afford the B5 generator.. BUT it actually feels weaker than both the Bi-Weave and C5 shields. Thinking about just sticking with the Bi-Weaves.. regen is happy face.

About that NPC stuff..
Is it just me or do NPCs have hugely more powerful maneuvering thrusters than me? I understand I'm not in a FAS or Vulture anymore, and I let a lot of it slide.. chalking it up to me being used to a much more maneuverable ship... but some of these NPCs are insane. How can a Python out pitch a FDL to the point that no matter what I do he is pointed directly at me?? Honestly I am at a total loss on this one.

<ShortRant>
<Also.. I am very... very tired of being ram0scanned by Dropship/FAS/FGS-ses. While I was using the B5 shields, I parked a good 14km from the nav point in a HRES.. more than enough normally.. and was nearly destroyed by a FAS that hit me at BOOST SPEED. Greifed by players is one thing.. by AI too? Snarf.>
</ShortRant>

:D

i would not say its not a "gorram general" vessel as the second most used pvp ship but i agree its very fun to fly. I use it for bounty hunting, too. If you are able to use that huge hardpoint, the fdl can kill very fast and efficient.

I use the b-weave for bounty hunting. Its not a good shield for anything else then bounty hunting but way more efficient there. You loose 33% of your shield for 50% faster recharge.

You should buy a gimballed huge cannon for the huge hardpoint. You need a bit training to use it, but you can kill a shieldless anaconda with 3 hits!

If you have problems to maneuver against a agile ship, fly backwards!

Thanks for the quick reply. :p I was meaning that the FDL feels like it was built by civillians, rather than by the military. All of the Federal ships, the Vulture, Python, and Viper all feel like it was built to military standard for the military.. no polish. Ergo, the FDL has a "finished" feel.

I am shooting for the C4 Plasma Accel, but I might also try a cannon. I want one fixed weapon, preferably as big as possible, for when the NPCs deploy chaff. (And because oneshotting stuff is outstandingly good fun.

As for flying backwards.. I don't think that will help lol. The issue I'm having is that ships that SHOULD be slower to turn/less agile than me can somehow keep their nose pointed directly at me at all times. (Clipper, All of the Dropship varients, Python, even some Anacondas!) Actually the more agile ships (Viper, Vulture, Cobra) are a cake walk for me. I make much use of my lateral thrusters and I do employ FA-Off on occasion.

Sometimes, I feel like I'm the only pilot in galaxy that doesn't like the FDL. I wish I could see the beauty in it that everyone else does, but I just can't.

Glad you fell in love with it though, OP! I'm always happy to see a CMDR find a ship hat really clicks for them.

Visually speaking it's a B, following only the Python and Corvette in raw awesome looking-ness. (Tied with the Clipper & Cutter.) IMO anyway. The real glory of it for me is the sound and it's performance. Also having the huge hardpoint for a fraction of the price of any other ship that has it didn't hurt. I bought a Python because they are downright sexy and on paper are amazing. I promptly sold it after realizing it was going to take nearly 50million credits to make it worth using in single combat.

Edit: The ship I REALLY wanted was the Clipper. All else aside, the only reason I'm not still in a FAS over in Imperial space grinding Naval Ranks is nobody has heard of retractable/fold-able/collapsable wings in the year 3302. :p

Edit2: Can anyone PLEASE point me to where I can find a bloody A6 distributor and B6 power plant that's within 50 or so LY of LHS 20???

if you untarget enemies gimballed work like fixed. I would not use fixed Huge weapons on the fdl, hitting with gimballed is hard enough thanks to the location of the hardpoint.

Then you are not close enough to them. You should be more agile but if you to far away you lose this benefit.

I've tried that.. only went to two systems but both had A&B class 6 stuff missing, one had no class 6 at-all. :(

Modules are sometimes sold out if enough people bought them on a station. Wait or just go to the next place on the list. I guess no one can give you a better direction except they are already there^^

I haven't figured out how to separate sections of a post into it's own quote.. lol.

I don't have any issues lining up with my Class 2 PAs at the moment, not sure why changing that to C4 would make a big difference?

Honestly sometimes I am only a few meters from my target and they are still able to track me perfectly. The main culprits are the Dropship variants.

Oooh.. I suppose that makes sense. I assumed that modules worked the same way as ships - they magically are constructed on an as needed basis or some such lol. Also I now see the big red WARNING about that on the linked page. >.>

Close the quote tag, after your text open it again^^

Yes, the location of any hardpoint is different. All Class 2 Hardpoints are perfectly aligned for fixed weapons, the Class 4 hardpoint not. Its on the bottom side of your ship and you need to roll or put your nose up to hit with it. Fixed C4 is hard to aim, the gimballed ones you can use a trick: If you see the enemy through the bottom window of the cockpit, you can fire.

FDS, FGS, FAS have superb hardpoint placements. If the npcs uses turret you need to tank their fire. No chance in outmaneuvering it with a FDL. Your shield and a chaff launcher should be enough.

;)

I think I will still give the C4 PA a go once I can afford it. If I end up hating it, no biggie. :p

Also, I am currently streaming Elite.. if you would like to give pointers on my flight style and/or laugh at my incompetence. ^^;
https://www.twitch.tv/keriamacleod

Edit, stream stopped for two reasons.. one; OBS is hanging for no obvious reason. The program it'self is running OK, and the sound appears to send properly, but the stream preview gets stuck on a single frame.. viewer says the stream is just constantly stopping to load. Have streamed before with out issue. :(

Second reason is maintenance for Engineers update! #WOOT #HYPE HASHTAGSTUFF 1337 TROLOLOL okay I'm done.
