A little concerned at Gameplay additions being abandoned

Powerplay and CQC aren't even mentioned in the Pilot's Handbook. That's........worrying.

The Handbook is the go-to place for new Commanders. If the game isn't going to inform new players about PP/CQC, then what does that says about the status of PP/CQC as far as Frontier are concerned? Dead? Complete? Pending future development?

Powerplay hasn't been significantly updated for eons now. There were some great suggestions proposed which would have got me involved in PP again (like Open-Play PP) but none of those suggestions have made it into the game, nor doesn't it look like they will anytime soon. Right now, for me, PP was that grind I did for some cool weapons, nothing more.

CQC could and should have been worked more into the main game. As others have suggested, perhaps the winners of a CQC tournament could get Grade 5 materials or other rewards, but nope. Imagine chained missions in which part of the chain was 'go here and win this CQC tournament to get this Anarchy faction interested in hiring you for future work'.

Another thing which is seemingly dead at the moment are new rumours for Exploration. Has anyone seen any new rumours for that? Looks like everything to be found has been found. Is that it? Anything more to come? I like the whole Rumoured / Reported / Confirmed framework Frontier developed there, has that been abandoned too?

This is a great game. With continued development on PP/CQC/Exploration Rumours, it would be even greater. As it stands, I look at Fleet Carriers and wonder if they too will be abandoned before fulfilling their potential.

If the handbook is for new players (or those so stuck they resort to reading manuals) maybe their absence means that PP and CQC aren't considered as activities for new players but something for the ones who have finished everything else.

CQC was a huge waste of Development time, how many actually use it?
Powerplay as much as it look like it would be a fun addition, alas it was not worked on, and seems to be another forgotten addition which sits there an stagnates with a small minority doing their best to make it work.

Shame as these features could of been intertwined into Elite is much better ways and became an integral part for most Commanders to take part in. But I am not hopeful of seeing anyting to make them a truly viable part of the game anytime (if at all) soon.

This is most likely why they are not mentioned in the Pilot's Handbook (Should read that one day I suppose).

Sandro wanted to improve Powerplay but then he got shipped off to another project so it's probably dead... as for CQC, I'd personally like to see it expanded to include a main ship dueling suite, but if they're not going to do anything with it they should at least open it up to the modding community.

They started down the right path, linking Exploration to locating USSes and Mining Hotspots. Very logical. But they need to continue now. Too many parts of the game just don't link to each other to make a compelling whole.

More Narrative Lead is needed.
More Rockstar Developers.
Less Death-By-Committee.
More Community Lead Projects.

Squadrons do connect powerplay and CQC to main game in some way. Getting into CQC is a strange gaming experience, it can be very rewarding also. I don't think there have been new maps introduced for it ever, or anything else for that matter. For powerplay, they should just do what Rubbernuke wants, it would be better for all. As for exploration, they'd need to understand soul of this game.

Pretty much this, I doubt that the new hires have any drive to improve/expand on old staff's brain childs, They will want to focus on new ideas. Even multi-crew is still half-cooked.
The only constant is Braben, but even he doesn't get involved with streams, events, media interviews, etc anymore these days. Sad.

Yeah, Frontier often don't finish what they start. In the case of mining and exploration they did (yay thanks Frontier nerds!) but I'd rather they fix the other parts of the game that need love rather than see any new features. My pet example? Elite as it is could be so much more awesome if the missions system was actually good and generated interesting missions (also missions for solo heavy haulers in Cutters and Type-9's, just saying). Powerplay too could be made much more interesting with love from the devs. Sadly I don't expect any big changes to either before 2H2020 which is a huge shame.

You know what though? Spent half my gaming session double painite hotpsot mining in my Cutter (gotta save for the carrier right?) and then spent the latter half zipping around a HazRes in my Vulture. It was a really fun! So I guess I can't complain too much because the game is still fun for me most of the time.

With the amount of updates and tweaks the mission system has had over the years i wouldnt expect them to change much from the flavour we have , its an inherent issue with procedural generation in the mission system. Plenty of choice but all are very meh when it comes to being engaging. I guess only hand crafted would come close but how many times would it be done before it too becomes rather meh also.

Maybe, but for one example. Would it really be so hard to make 400-700t haulage missions for the larger trading ships? Why stop at the Python's 180t?

I think you may be over-thinking here. Despite the number of people involved in making and growing Elite, there is a finite amount of things that can, or even should, do at one time. Look at how little was added with the September update and how far sideways it went. If they started making Big Picture Sweeping Changes all over the place at once, not only would Chaos ensure, it would be utter pandemonium and nothing would be playable.

Take breath, give them time to work, follow you pagh.
