Newcomer / Intro A Little Help Please

ok, so have just bought my first ship, an Adder - Woo Hoo!

And as per other's advice, I've bought and installed a Class D Power Distributer and a Class D Power System.

I also bought a Gimballed Multi Cannon, but for some reason, even though I've equipped it, I am unable to deploy the gun in combat. Now, I've set it up as part of primary loadout & as part of secondary Loadout, but it does not deploy! What am I doing wrong?

Sorry, may be a bit of a noob question, but spent over an hour last night switching things around but still not able to get multi cannon to work.

Any and all help appreciated.

I find that whenever you install a new weapon, there's a screen that pops up saying weapon unassigned.
That means on the right hand HUD screen, there's a tab called firegroups and you need to get your newly equipped hardpoint assigned to either trigger/button 1 or 2 (or blank as you don't want everything firing at once!).
You can assign fire groups by clicking on the far right empty line of circles to assign button 1 or 2 to each hardpoint.
Once that's all done, you have to actually switch firegroups and there should be a button/control assigned for that.

(NB: My first time out in an eagle with newly equipped lasers/multicannons, deployed the relevant firegroup and the power draw was too much. Everything except life support switched off and I was drifting in a space coffin listening to the sound of my own breath and watching the cockpit frost up! Always do a dry run first until you know your power management... but that's another post)
